Haha thanks for that. Site pools from Craiglists but it eliminates the junk. - mrhattrick27
Yeah, it uses a couple other sites, too. It's pretty awesome. |

yeah i saw them. i think they offer like a ten percent student discount if you buy a trailpass based upon each semester. ive never really used septa except for the occasional busride before, but it seems like the best option here - stayinthefnnet
Trailpass should also work on the subway and buses, I think. They are the best way to go. |

It's nice to see the CL listings on a map, at least. Not perfect, but it is helpful. |

Flyers suck. Discuss. - mrhattrick27
No way, the Rangers suck! |
|
|
|
Seriously, it's putting me to sleep here. Somebody needs to argue about whose opinions the Flyers don't make decisions based on, or whether advanced stats are prophetic/garbage, or something. - BulliesPhan87
rank these goaltenders based on their time with the flyers (predictive for emery and mason)*:
biron, bryz, nitty, esche, boosh, leighton, emery, mason
*ranking for talent... not like "player a played x more games so he accomplished more as a flyer" or anything like that. basically seeing where people think our current goalies fit in with these other guys as far as talent goes |

There you have it, the most dominant athlete of all time—Wayne Gretzky.
The man owned hockey. When the day you're traded is considered one of the saddest days in the history of your city, you now you were pretty good.
And Gretzky was more than pretty good, he was unbelievable.
He was the greatest scorer in the history of hockey, and, by far, the best assist man in the history of the game.
He has 93 more goals than anybody in hockey history, he has the two highest goal scoring seasons in NHL history, he has over 700 more assists than anybody else in NHL history, he is the all-time NHL leader in assists per game and points per game, he had so many points in his career that had he not scored a single goal in his entire career he would still be the NHL all-time points leader.
Do you understand how great of an achievement that is? That means that he had more assists in his career than any other NHL player had assists plus goals.
He has 10 of the top 12 single seasons of all time in points scored, 11 of the top 12 seasons of all time in assists, and four of the top 10 seasons in goals scored.
He led the league in assists a remarkable 13 straight times, and points eight straight times. He is the only player in NHL history to top 200 points in a season, and he did it four times. His number has been retired by every team throughout hockey, not to mention he won nine Hart Trophies and four Stanley Cups.
There was never a player in the history of team sports like Gretzky. He could have scored 1,500 goals if he wanted, but he didn't want to, he wanted to get his whole team involved which shows with his ridiculous assist totals and his Stanley Cup total.
I'm Michael Jordan's biggest fan, but even I'll admit that Wayne Gretzky was much more dominant than him.
Gretzky was just a man among boys.

Skimmed through it briefly. Stopped reading it when the author stated that RBI's in baseball is a pretty much useless stat. Laughable. - MJL
He's far from alone in that thinking though
why dismiss the entire article because of it?
note: i only read the intro because i am too lazy/uninterested in totally delving into advanced stats. |

even though i honestly think emery (first time around...while healthy) impressed me the most. maybe just because he didn't stick around long enough to sour. i am most decidedly not a "blame the goalie" guy, but by the end i was sickened by the sight of marty biron |

Not sure if you're familiar, but DGB is a humor blog.
Anyways, personally I don't know much about baseball stats, I only watch it on occasion. In hockey, I'm ok with advanced stats. I don't swear by them, but I'll take Fenwick and Corsi over realtime stats or +/- anyday. |

I think this guide was made for you. I'm kind of in the same boat, I think I understand advanced stats, but I'm not busting out my TI-83 and making a commitment here. |

pretty sure the theory is that any guy who has good power numbers, slugging %, etc..will rack up RBIs if you hit him in the middle of a lineup that routinely has guys on base in front of him
in other words its the other stats that really tell the story.. far more than RBI numbers |

Its just odd cause I thought advanced stats would show why the great players are great and then go down in player quality you'd see so and so is actually a highly effective player. Instead one side has over a 3 year period that Tyler Kennedy has the 2nd best Corsi #s and that's where I stopped caring. |

thats not a bad explanation. i just dont think it tells the whole story of guys who are clutch and elevate their average with RISP, or who may not get a hit but know how to consistently either get the ground ball or sac fly to get the run in. although i guess they are technically stats to themselves as well. god damn it |

i think i get what they're driving at from a "predicting future returns" angle (if you are building a team, looking at the runs a guy's driven in before might not be the best predictor of future rbis)
it starts to piss me off when people write-off rbis as indicators of a successful season, however (heard a lot of this last year during the al mvp talks). driving in runs is pretty much the definition of success as a hitter. whether or not he can repeat it is one thing, but if a guy kills it with rbi's it's pretty silly to say he didn't have a successful year at the plate. just my opinion
EDIT: same for hockey (rbi's roughly equivalent to goals...the "payoff") |
