ive done private my entire life, and if i had the choice, i wouldnt either (as far as grade school and high school are concerned) the problem is just with their costs continually skyrocketing, not many families realistically have that choice anymore
- stayinthefnnet

Just like colleges there are grants, vouchers, and financial aid. If I had kids and couldn't pay, I would make sure he went to a good grade school in De like North Star. Then like Skyline Middle, but I would make sure he would go to private highschool.

I dont want to sound harsh, but I would only send my kid to private school if he was on the middle to upper end of the intelligence scale. Otherwise I would push him into a Vo-Tech school.

i guess because im still relatively younger, but i am a fan of trying to involve the kid in the decision as much as possible, to a certain extent.

and i guess it does sound harsh, but it really isnt that wrong of a viewpoint. things seem to be cycling a bit already, and in a lot of ways people that come out of somewhere knowing a tangible trade are ahead of someone with a random degree in whatever have you. not to mention much more dept free.

this is definitely a little hypocritical coming from someone who did catholic grade school, high school, and a small liberal arts catholic college, but i do see your point.

You know... Your right. There are some good-decent grade school options for public schools, but pretty much all the Highschools suck... Newark, Christiana, Richardenson, McKean, I really can't think of a good Public highschool in de.

Yeah. People always get all worked up but the area on campus is very safe. They have a very large campus security staff.

yeah. im not going to lie, just being down there is pretty overwhelming for me. im not rich by any means, but i have been fairly isolated from large sections of what can be considered the city. to the extent that i literally feel like a tourist down there. i was 6 when i came to the northeast, and then did 4 years other than summers in sleepy little center valley for desales.

i dont necessarily feel scared about being down there. its a well run place, and its not like ill be roaming back alleys in the dead of night. right now, its more of just a wow. this is big, crowded, and congested.

That's good info, thanks. Its a decent Job at DuPont, certainly not gona make me rich but should allow me to find a nice small place with some room for my wife, kid, and dog. I'm in EHT in south jersey now, its about a 65 mile each way drive from there. I plan on doing the drive for the time being and take some time to learn the area before I transplant. I have a 7 year old boy so the school situation is definitely important. Thanks guys.

Ok. You definately want the Pike Creek area. Good Schools, low Crime, and enough shops and stuff to keep you busy. Check out the development of Woodcreek, or Limestone Hills.

I give you credit for stepping out of your comfort zone. Embrace the city and city life and you will learn to love it. Don't just come, go to class then go home. Meet people and explore the area. Obviously the safe areas.

haha yeah exactly. at the time for grade school i really was probably too young to form my own decision on it. it was a nice clean place that i could walk to on my own due to being so close. it wasnt until i was like in 6th or 7th grade that i really could appreciate the fact my parents sent me there, even if i had to deal with monotonous religious classes sprinkled in. then with high school, i wouldnt say i had the greatest high school experience, but it was definitely not bad. i just hated the tracking system. but it sure beat going to any of the public schools in the area. i wont pretend to be an authority on them, but ill just say im not too much a fan.

then the catholic college through a good amount of money in my direction, i saw a few open spaces and trees, and somehow before i knew it my mom had talked me into it. its hard to think about coulda shoulda type things, but looking back now i have somewhat mixed feelings on it.

You'll get used to it. Its a pretty cool campus and downtown Philly is just a short subway ride away.

The private schools do exactly what they're meant to do. They isolate you from things. Whether they're good or bad is up to you.

Apropos of nothing, I counted the number of back to back games the Flyers have....

I counted 14.

According to Larry Brooks, the Rangers have 12 back to backs, NYI has 17, and NJD plays 22.

true. temple really just seemed like a good fit. for their price, they seem to be one of the better returns on value for their law reputation i could find on the east coast. and after four years of being away, as lame as it sounds im looking forward to being at home for at least this upcoming year.

although as a commuter, i must say, the whole go to class then go home thing is a big fear of mine. i feel i may get sucked into that mentality whether i want to or not, especially in the beginning. just the combination of the daily commute, overwhelming level of work from classes, and everything new at once. i am kind of worried about being out of the proverbial loop once class ends and i go home.
