No, they call it an 8-game tryout.
- jmatchett383

I don't like it. Let's think of something else to call it.

Now would be a good time for a joke about adjusting artificial sweeteners for inflation due to being on a stacked team or whatever, but it's not coming together. Sorry for the let down, guys.
- BulliesPhan87

I dont get the whole "adjusted" numbers. I mean Gretz goes to LA and puts up between 130-170 points in 6 of 8 seasons. 1 was not because of injury and 1 was 120 points... I mean come on... The game was grab and hold in the late 90s when Gretz was near his 40s and still putting up 25 goals and 100 points for a crappy Rangers team....

I'm still trying to figure out what your avatar picture is of It's one of those things that I won't see until you tell me, then I'll probably go get my sight checked.

It's some sort of helmet with a cloth draped around it, another old video game thing. The sepia makes it tough to see.

That's why, like I said a few times, the numbers aren't perfect
It's just a way to try to get rid of inflation.

I think it's kind of arbitrary, the whole adjusting the numbers thing. I'm not trying to get invested in that debate though, I don't have a great frame of reference when it comes to these legends that played decades ago.

he retired in 1999. Not really decades. More like decade with a remainder.

Fair enough, but I was still only twelve or thirteen at the time, and really didn't care that much about pro sports.

I shutter to think what Wayne could do in a era where there is no clutching and grabbing, with more ice behind the net, restricted goalie pads, improved equipment, graphite sticks, no head shots, no 2 line pass rules, delayed offsides.... SHUTTER.

He'd spend a ton of time in the box. I've never seen anyone hook as much as that guy. He was great at it just like everything else he did on the ice.

I saw him in 1996, near the end of his career. Every time on the ice, he just drew the attention to himself. He scored 2 flat-out amazing goals.

Oddly enough, after my grandparents dies, we were going through their stuff and found a stack of pictures from the 87 Finals with 2nd row seats. I wish I could have been there, to see Gretzky in his full glory.

i'm okay with whatever happens, the part i don't get is why on one hand fans moan that they wish we developed like the redwings and didn't rush players but as soon as we have a tweener suddenly that idea goes out the window

Best post of the day! There is absolutely no reason to have Laughton on team for more than the 10 games before being sent down. He's not making or breaking this years team. We Have plEnty of bottom 6 players. Actually he shouldn't be on the team next year either. Play Jr this year ahl next year then plan to bring him up. And stop signing every bottom 6 player to multI year deals. Let these kids develop properly. And yes I get it, he may be talented enough to play a role on big team but it's not needed and sending him down will not hurt him

You've clearly never watched what players got away with in the 1980s. The 90s had a crackdown on it, which is why PPS skyrocketed.

Random thoughts, cause I'm bored and it's too damn hot to go outside!

Why is it summer always flew by when I was a kid in school and now it drags as I wait for the next hockey season to start?

With L. Schenn, Gus, Morin, Hagg, Ghost, Lauridsen and Alt, I'm starting to feel a lot better about the future of the Flyers D

Why are so many people in the U.S. fascinated with the birth of the next British royal? Didn't we fight a revolution so we wouldn't have to pay attention to these pampered inbred twits any more?!?!

Does anyone really know why this symbol ~ is on my keyboard? Anyone??

Late in their touring days, the Beatles often said they could not hear a thing during their shows cause of all the screaming, nor did they really think the audience could hear anything either. I wonder if in the middle of songs they sometimes sang, "please go frank yourself"; I would of!

Speaking of the Beatles, don't you just know that Ringo will be the last to die? And doesn't that just suck!

One good thing about the offseason: For 3 months I don't have to listen to Pierre Maguire lust after Crosby!

Wouldn't it be funny if Tortorella won a cup with Vancouver? Come on, as Flyer fans we could probably sell tickets to watch Ranger fans jump off the Brooklyn Bridge!

And finally, I have a friend who has memorized the number pi to over 100 digits. It goes without saying that he rarely gets laid

And now back to our regularly scheduled hockey chat!
