I can see what you're saying
Im sure there will be a couple N.American guys that have big seasons & shoot up the charts too
I wouldn't hate Ekblad, but with our defense looking pretty set for the future, a stud forward makes sense to me - jdfitz77

Players like that are secondary pieces. We need a franchise player 1st, then we can focus on addressing needs that include one dimensional players. I'd take a #1 franchise D over a pure goal scorer any day.
Also Armia. |

Yes they take time to develop, but the payoff is much better than trying to add secondary pieces and force them to take on a role that they can't handle.
Re building is about finding franchise players to build around even if it takes time.
Pietrangelo is a pretty good example, it took a bit of time for him to develop but now he's an elite franchise player. Sabres need the same. |

Anyone mention how Stewart resigned at STL for two years 8.3 million? |

We are not going to get to a top pick spot unless we get rid of Miller and Vanek... we'll prob finish 6-9 with the team we have right now

Both will probably be gone by deadline day. Even so, we wait till 2015, We need a franchise player doesn't matter whether it's a two way centre or a defensemen but we need to acquire that building block before we can add secondary players. Otherwise we would just be repeating the same poop we've dealt with for the last 5 or 6 years.
Edit: Even with Vanek and Miller on the team, finishing 6-9th may be a stretch. Over an 82 game season we could finish anywhere from 2-7. |

Well Darcy's still in command, so unfortunately, I expect the same sh!t for the next 5-6 yrs. I agree with you though, but I think Miller will be so tough to deal at the deadline. What if the teams who are making a run are satisfied with their goaltending situation? What then? |

Then he walks I guess. Either way if the plan is to go into a full rebuild we will be drafting somewhere in the top 3 within the next year or two. It'd be hard even for Darcy to (frank) that up. |

My point was more about being patient for the right player than stating the obvious. If it takes sucking for several years to get to that point then so beat. 3 years of brutal hockey than 7 years of competitive hockey beats 10 years of mediocre hockey |

I agree with you here, IM not worried about whomever we draft in the first I want to see some of these mid rounders actualyl produce and help. |

That's always nice,
But even if just our 1st rounders meet projections...
Ennis, Hodgson, Grigorenko, Girgensons & Armia up front
And Myers, Pysyk, Ristolainen & Zadorov on defense
That's a solid core group
Again, that's if they all meet projections
But even if a couple don't quite live up to their billing,
Chances are someone else will step up
I actually really like how we are shaping up for the future
Biggest question for me is whether or not we have a Goalie that can become a "#1" |

the emergence of a number one goalie is always tricky. they take forever to develop and can either run with it for a season and fizzle out or turn into world destroyers. it's tricky business. My judgement is clouded because I really like Ryan Miller and I would ride him til he retires but it would be crappy if we had a number one to let him rot while miller manned the crease, that is, assuming we have a guy that can step up. |
