To me, he's a fantastic power forward and a great captain. It's high, but if that's what it took to lock him up, I say it's a good deal for both.

I think they're paying him more for his past production than what they believe the future holds. In years 4-8, the cap hit might not be that bad with the cap going up.

Fluery is one of a few goalies that does not scare me at all. Lundqvist (stupid Swedish name) scares the crap out of me, Fluery makes me feel like we have a chance to beat them.

Not normally a quality in an elite goalie.

not trying to sound like a Richard, but when the flyers and pens played that year in the playoffs, he didnt worry you at all? he was a large reason they got past the flyers.

granted, if you bring it to today's day and age, i totally agree. if the calender says april you can beat him with a practice wrister from the blueline.

like jmatchett and myself are saying, it really is unfortunately a tale of two totally different players somehow

For all the Hype that goes with Crosby, I've never seen him as a Lemiuex/Gretzky type. He's one the of best players in the league, but he's not legendary material IMO.

Back in the 80s, you always heard stories about guys but only saw them 1-2 times a year. Now, you can look up highlight reels online and buy Gamecenter to see them play whenever. It removes some of the mystique around players.

I agree, although I wish he continued his career here and then either ended it here or went to a more historic franchise than the Dallas Stars. I think the more random teams he plays for, the more foolish he looks as he ages. After here I thought he would have went to a place like the Detroit Red Wings, which isn't so bad.

Apart of me wishes Gagne would just sign somewhere already. As much as both my head and heart tells me it makes all the sense in the world for Gagne to return here, if he doesn't, I would rather get the heart break over with.

No, not in the NHL at least. As someone who saw Gretzky, Lemieux and for that matter Bobby Orr; those guys were truly legends and were head and shoulders better than anyone else they played against.

I think recently you could say the same about Jerry Rice in the NFL and obviously Jordan on the hardwood.

nah, even in his prime he never was lunqvist, or what quick is now. i have no problem saying that. but when he wasnt a quivering mental case, he was in the conversation for say top ten? which im in agreement with you, is not elite. but stats will never tell the whole story with him. he was perfect to play behind the team that he did.

im not a guy based solely on stats, and i do admit they are kind of skewed given the amount of time he has missed. but when you look at his numbers he compiles, in today's game, they are pretty damn above the norm.

I agree that he's never been an elite goalie. But he's been a very good regular season goalie who went on 2 magnificent playoff runs. If you take away those 2 playoff runs, his regular season numbers and playoff numbers are a tale of 2 goalies.

There are only a handful of guys that should ever be considered "legendary". Gretzky and Lemieux are probly the only ones I've seen play in my lifetime. Geordie Howe, Hull and Orr, the Rocket. There have probably been a few goalies too. But really Gretzky and Lemieux are it. Even Crosby and Ovie aren't at their level to me.

I completely agree. There is no question he has the talent, but he has no confidence and the team doesn't have the ability to wait things out. They have a team built to win now.

that i agree with. crosby just wont hit those levels. i dont see anyone in today's game as that. but are they the only two who can bear that label of legendary?

granted, i think crosby needs another cup, which who knows if he will get it, to really cement his status, but if he stays healthy the numbers he will compile are absurd
