For your "Olympic team considered by many" is who? Cam Ward over Mike Smith...never. PK Subban, Chris Letang and Kevin Bieksa are all better than Marc Staal and Brent Seabrook. On the forwards Jamie Benn, Patrice Bergeron, Eric Staal are big question marks. Tyler Seguin couldn't even stay on a Boston team. With forwards like Ryan Getzlaf, Jason Spetza, Taylor Hall, Matt Duchene, David Clarkson, Logan Couture, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Jordan Eberle, will certainly all be given the same consideration as anybody else. The only players that have a spot if they are healthy would be Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Toews, and John Tavares. The rest is wide open.

Really? A Selke finalist who played amazingly in Vancouver, who is one of the best two-way guys in the league is a big question mark?

You can't be taken seriously if you mention David Clarkson in that list.

Really ? Clarkson ? a guy who can hardly skate and has never had more then 50 pts in a season? A guy who went 17 games without a goal last season? My mind would be blown if he even received a phone call.

Bergeron will make the team. Claude Julien is on the coaching staff and Babcock has a ton of respect for Bergeron. Canada is going to need Bergeron for faceoffs and penalty killing. Not going to win with all offensive forwards, going to need two way players, and Bergeron fits that mold to a T.

Forwards:
Rick Nash - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Jonathan Toews - Claude Giroux - Corey Perry
Jamie Benn - Patrice Bergeron - Martin St. Louis
Eric Staal - John Tavares - Tyler Seguin

Defensemen:
Shea Weber - Marc Staal
Drew Doughty - Alex Pietrangelo
Duncan Keith- Brent Seabrook

Sequin definatly won't make the team. The are multiple possibilities that are better and have less of an attitude than him. Hall should take his spot and I'll sub Benn for Eberle only because Hall and Eberle have good chemistry. There's better options than Eberle but him and Hall play on the same team know each other etc. On defense, Seabrook and Subban swap and it's good.

My head hurts comprehending it. Let's just clone David Clarkson 23 times and make an entire roster out of him. One of them is bound to score consistently.

You are right my friend...and the team I provided is who I felt could be iced. Point of the blog is to discuss it I think Seguin comes out and has a solid year with Dallas and a few guys like Getzlaf start slowing down. I agree that Seguin is the off the board pick on my list, but I think hes got a shot.

Team Canada has a lot of talent to pick from...will certainly be a tough decision!

This comment can't be taking seriously if you say Clarkson has a chance at the team.

Who knows? The might be a nuclear apocalypse and he'll be the only player left! First line of Clarkson - Stortini - ECHLer, sweet!!

I don't think both Eberle and Hall make the team. If Eberle is being thrown out there as a option for Team Canada, I think Marchand should be considered as well. They have similar numbers outside of 2011/12 and Marchand brings that pest role that can get under the skin of opposing players. He would certainly help in that regard. Plus he can score as well.

The only reason I put Eberle there is because he has chemistry with Hall.

BTW Marchand's center. Giant logjam at center on team Canada.

Marchand hasn't played center since Juniors. Plays strictly right wing on the Bruins.

Marchand has a lot to offer, but I dont think he has enough to offer over some of the other RW's available. There are a ton of players out there for team Canada who should be iced. They could almost compile two teams and compete with both of them!

Agreed

Would be quiet entertaining to watch Marchand running around the ice pissing off everyone on the other team. Sure the Olympic committee would love that

Really!!! David Clarkson is the guy you're picking on? Team Canada has so many good players to pick from. The only players that will make the team for sure if they are healthy are Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares, Toews, Keith, Weber, and Price. The rest of the players are in a dogfight to make the team.

These are the players Im questionable about. Could be a few other guys slotted in here.

Duchene, Benn, Seguin, Richards, Lucic, Couture, Getzlaf, Neil, Spezza, Carter, Seabrook, Letang

There are a lot of great choices for this team but I'm not certain Nash and Seguin are there. I would say Nash has a better chance than Seguin though. But if those guys are just having average seasons I would definitely say they are bubble guys, IMO
- xxCHRISTOFIRExx

Nash is all but a guarantee to make it.
I doubt they take a chance with Seguin after all the reports coming out about him.

Not a chance Seguin is on the Canadian team. Did you watch him play this past year? A guy can only live off his "can't miss" status for so long. A 3rd line player makes Team Canada?

Subban is a complete no-brainer/lock for the Olympic team. this is international hockey on an international-size sheet of ice. you need guys who can skate and move the puck, and there are not many players in the NHL who do that better than Subban. Canada needs to bring a very mobile defence, and both Subban and Letang absolutely must make this team. people debating between guys like this and guys like Staal need to Google Canada's roster from 2006. Gretzky selected a group of big lumbering defencemen and the team couldn't score for poop desbite being completely loaded up front.

Because Seguin only has 3rd line talent

He'll be 1st line in Dallas and put up big numbers with Benn.
