This team was awful, are you denying that ? - sbroads24
Yes they were bad. Any team whose supposed stud D doesn't show up and not have the second line show up is going to be bad. I'm not saying they are a great or even good team. But they could have made the playoffs last year. |

you really think miller accomplished enough here to have his jersey retired? - robz228
Yes. The precident for retiring a jersey in Buffalo isn't winning a stanley cup.

One of them won't be here to start the year and yes we still are rebuilding. We have traded 5 roster players that started last years team and signed no one, that's rebuilding - sbroads24
Both will be here to start the season. We aren't rebuilding. |

I'm good with either to be honest, I hate not rooting for my team to win even in last years situation with the ridiculously deep draft. I just can't root for my own team to lose. - Tsyolin
If losing meant the difference between Connor McDavid or Player B, what do you do? |

I dont care what people say about T-Pegs, he has done more for this community in 1 year, than most of the corrupt higher powers have done in their lifetimes. |

Retiring a number means greatness and longevity, the only numbers that should be retired are 7,11,14,18, 39 IMO.
My criteria is
500+ games played for the organization.
400+ for goalies.
close to a PPG player for a forward.
Shut down prolific D-Man all star awawd winning.
All star, multiple trophy winning goalie.
I dont really understand 2, i know it is tragic, but jersyes like 16 should be honored (Players have to ask to be able to use them) not retired. |

This is what I mean. LaFontaine's jersey retirement is more for his work in the community and his "folk-hero" status. It's why he has his jersey retired, and the likes of Mogilny and Hawerchuk didn't (not that they should, not here anyway). He accomplished more as an Islander than he ever did as a Sabre. Granted, part of it has to do with a rift between him and Islanders' ownership, but I think the fact that the Islanders haven't retired his number speaks volumes. They have guys that led them to cups. It's been a while, but the Islanders once had a championship tradition, and they honor those before local folk heroes. |

Ryan Miller's runs in 2006 and 2007 are well above average. Vezina caliber, and jersey-retiring caliber? Probably not, but Ryan Miller accomplished more in his career as a Sabre than LaFontaine ever did. |

pretty much spot on. whiney generally dislikable person can accomplish more on the ice and be way less thought of than someone like lafontaine. unless miller wins a cup(s) his jersey will never be retired |

Miller has done a lot in the community. Like I said earlier, in a place like Buffalo, where the standard is so low, he'll get his number retired. If he played in a place like Detroit, Montreal, or even Toronto, he wouldn't even be considered for it. |

They were not Vezina Caliber, unless if you compare his stats to the 80s, he just won a lot of games and a team that was really really good offensively. |
