Not comBoth of the latter are capable of bein number 1's, or at least big minuter 2's.

My ideal scenario for Gagner is 4.5 for 5 years with a LNMC. He's probably looking at 4.75 or 5.

As for MacT being done for real major moves, what other major moves should he do? Now is not the time to go for a top 2 defenseman. Baby steps, we have to get out of the basement of the league.

Rome wasn't built in one day. Put simply, we don't have the assets to get a top 2 defenseman right now anyways. Wait a year. Let's see how this team does. Fix up the bottom 6 a little more and this team isn't half bad.

I don't think its a dollar amount holding up the deal. Term and an NTC is what Gagner is looking for. I think 4.5 over 5 yrs is about the cash. Just a question of how badly he wants the NTC.

I agree, the term is the scary part, tying up cash when you have Yak, Nuge, and Shultz all needing contracts in a year or 2.

Agreed if he wants a LNTC just give it to him. So he gets to pick 10 teams he won't go to. That still leaves 20 more teams if we want to trade him. I really want him here longterm. How many guys in the league actually want to live and play in Edmonton longterm? Not many. The guy just wants some stability in his life. Who doesn't?

Agreed for the most part. Seidenberg is def a stretch at 1, but he can play big minutes so doesnt really matter where he is.
Jaybo prob the only 1 that can actually be considered a 1.

No kidding. A 25 year old with 38 points? Wouldn't even be surprised if he got paid over 5 million.

On a semi related note, why do people suggest Gagner has no value? Realistically, he could probably get you close to Perron value (Good prospect and a 2nd)

The oilers would sign at 3.5 before the ruling was even final.
There is absolutely zero chance he gets less than 4. Id take that in a heartbeat too.

Tons of intangibles and character.
But a couple things;
Hes never topped 50 pts along with bein average both defensively and at faceoffs.
Hes fairly small on an already smallish top 6.
If he was surrounded by a few behemoths, hes prob already signed to what he wants.

Gagner basically has the oilers by the nuts on this one.. Even if he does get over paid, the oiles can't afford to let him walk away for nothing and it leaves a massive hole at 2c. I guess regardless what happens, we sign him and if we have to deal him later, better then losing him for nothing
