There's so much hindsight with the Gagner contract situation. Nobody would've wanted Gagner locked up for very long, me included. He didn't deserve it back then. It's only because his play picked up this year that people say he should have been locked up long term

he's still young. has plenty of opportunities to flourish in edm with the linemates given to him. it's not like it was hemsky, didn't have many other highly skilled players to play with. i just like to see him sign a 4 or 5 year term max. he deserves it.

He's worth anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5m/year... if he wants a LNTC, He needs to sign for 4-4.25

Yes. I actually think the Oilers would prefer to have him locked for one year. That way they get to re-assess the roster and his fit this year. If they want to lock him up long term during the year or next summer they still can.

letting him walk... i don't think any of us wants to see that. trade him, don't let him play another season in edm. letting him walk for nothing is just dumb on mac-t part.
