No rookie makes an NHL team in July.

The Flames aren't sitting around the table today saying, "Wow Tim Harrison would look good on the fourth-line."

Mono, Knight and Sven are the only three that have a shot at the team IMO.

- IanEsplen

There was an interview from a player I can't remember who it was.. I think it was Horak?

But he said something along these lines:

Hartley came into the room before camp started and told everyone you are here to compete for a Jersey/Job.

He also said that set the tone for the entire camp that it was going to be very intense.

How bad would have it been if he gives Poirier a concussion on the play?

Hey, we passed on Hunter and now we have a player with a concussion history because of a mini camp.

- IanEsplen

We passed on Hunter because he is a piece of poop. I've heard just about enough of that garbage now.

Try telling them that. They are constantly under evaluation. I know that nobody is out there to kill anyone. But if hitting is one of your skills, your gonna show it. You can't turn it off.

A lot of guys are competing for Pro Contracts, not just to make the flames.

Gaudreau still makes me nervous. I want to see him in a flames jersey.

His wrap around goal, at development camp, was ridiculous. He is so fast.

Anyone else looking good?

P.s thanks for writing. It's been getting boring.

I just hope he's not blowing us off to pull the ol' Justin Schultz. The organization should be promising the world to this kid. I watched the scrimmage yesterday and he is damn good. He's gonna be electric in the NHL, the puck just follows him around the ice.
- The-O-G

Who did you like yesterday? I only saw highlights on the flames site.

Kanzig was way better than I expected..

Granlund impressed me the most, haven't seen him in awhile and I was under the impression he wasn't developing as we hoped but he stood out offensively.

Gillies big standout in net.

Actually I forgot about Granlund too, he looked like a pro vs. the kids out there.

Wow

Can't say I agree with that at all.

I wonder how many kids will be going home and needing to take a week or two off to recover.

Most of these kids haven't been on the ice much for three months and you want them going balls to the wall? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I wonder how many will go home and realize the passion, drive, and commitment they need to show to get to the NHL level.

The kid is a class act the whole way and he's going to haunt Flames fans for years. Get used to hearing the name "Hunter Shinkaruk", preceeded by "goal scored by" because you're going to be hearing it a lot at the Dome for the years to come.

Seriously? These kids have probably been training harder at home than they do at this camp.

Anyone can polish up their interview skills. It's what happens in the dressing room that matters.

Agreed. The team has very high hopes for knight. I won't be pissed if mono doesn't make it, but if he is better, he has to.

Yah...I'm sure he's captain of his team because he has "issues" in the locker room.

I've played on many teams where the captain is an A-hole......just saying. Many times the letters are given out by the coaches, not the players, any many guy's resent other players because of this...

This is an honest question because I don't know the answer.

Why can't college players sign an entry level deal before they are done their college playing time? I understand that they cannot receive any compensation until they are finished playing in college, but could it not be treated as a commitment letter? Perhaps just that, a letter of commitment to the team, and not a contract where compensation is involved. But then they are contractually obligated to join that NHL organization once they college time is complete.

Isn't that how if works for high school athletes about to enter the college ranks? The colleges recruit them, and then the player decided which school he will be attending they sign a commitment letter to that school.

Even now for kids playing junior. They may sign their entry level deal, but they do not receive any compensation if they are returned to their junior team. Monahan could sign his entry level and still go back to Junior, not seeing any of the money but still being committed to the Flames.

Otherwise why wouldn't more college players to the Justin Schultz thing. It isn't a financial issue as the limit on entry level contracts is maxed out the same for all teams. But if you could choose between going to the Flames who are obviously re-building and assumedly will still be doing so a year from now, or you could choose to join a team like Boston (for example) that is in a much better position then why wouldn't you join the team further ahead. I get the "character" aspect to it, but it is completely within the way the rules are laid out.

At least junior players that go unsigned (I believe after 2 years) have to go back into the draft. So they don't get to become a UFA.

I really do hope that he joins the Flames. He is at least saying all the right things. But it is so easy to see why he would choose to go elsewhere.

of course there is guys...this isnt a practice! Its development camp and a mini tryout for a lot of guys...but understand that the coaches are reminding them that its a development camp and while they need to play physical, they arent to be looking for big hits. These are hockey players, they also play chippy.
