Id try to do a mdz for kadri deal and cut out phaneuf. I really have zero interest in phaneuf. Dude is singlehandedly the reason they lost game 7 - rangerdanger94
I don't know, big shot on the PP and one of the most feared hitters in the game. I understand his limitations and that he gets paid way too much money, but if its a Richards for Phaneuf deal, I can really see the utility of that deal for the Rangers. Hard to see how that straight up trade makes sense of the Leafs, however, because they already have Bozak, Bolland and Kadri down the middle.
The only way that the Rangers can trade for Phaneuf without blowing up the roster is to trade Richards in that deal. But, then the Leafs would have too many centermen. |

I think everyone is missing the big picture here. Elisha Cuthbert 41 times a season. |

If this were to happen, Kadri is a RFA, bridge deal? |

Yea I guess u have a point but how devastating would it be if we trade mdz, then phaneuf and girardi walk next year, and staal walks the year after? Not saying it will happen but that would suck lol. Id try to deal girardi before mdz cuz dz is still a rfa.
Id explore the possibilities for the deal but I just dont see the rangers not buying out richards just to trade him but phaneuf + kadri for richards + mdz/Girardi + X could work since phaneuf is the exact dman we need. |

Leafs gm has said publicly that everyone is available including kessel, phaneuf, and kadri, for the right deal. |

Funny how things work out sometime, because last year at the same time, people were talking about Kadri as a potential bust, and MDZ finished in the Top 15 for the Norris.
Kadri is nowhere near Tavares league though, TJ. Not even sure he would be a high end first line center.

I'm not saying he's as good as tavares, but he seems to be the type that's untouchable. Like Tavares is untouchable. Kind of like Stepan for us. Id be floored if kadri was traded |

I think Stepan is a real good comparison, and I have no idea why the Leafs would want to trade Kadri. After thinking about it a little, its hard to see any deal working between the Leafs and Rangers for Phaneuf, because Richards would have to go back the other way, and what are the Leafs going to do with Richards when they already have Kadri, Bozak and Bolland?

He's nuts then
Kadri was great last year. I know it's one year but he's a keeper that guy. If the rangers got him I'd do the happy dance |

I would love Kadri here, just worry how steep the price would be in the end. |

My guess would be Richard, MDZ and Miller for Kadri and Phaneuf. Maybe we could switch backup goalies as part of the deal as well. Crazy talk! |

But it's lessened by virtue of being able to share it with the acquiring team. Let's face it; with the way the cap is likely going to go up, do you think the Rangers will care two hoots about a couple million in dead space four or five years from now if they really believe they can make a move today to improve their chances of winning a Cup? I don't. - gkmkiller
It would be 10.7 million divided by the number of years left on his deal when he retires.
24m paid - 13.3m cap hit for those two years / no. years left

I've been to a few New Years Eve games at the Garden. I don't remember any issues more than the usual drunks. Two games standout, one was on New Years eve 1966, against the Blackhawks. Bobby Hull was going for 50 goals, and there was a great media presence at the game, way more than usual. Rangers held Hull off the score sheet if memory serves and I think the Rangers won. Oh yeah, one more thing "Potvin sucks" was still 7 years away. The second, was later at the present garden, the Rangers were playing the Atlanta Flames, who were a big tough team. They had some real donnybrooks with the Flyers back then, real bench clearing fights. Anyway, the Flames were really tossing the Rangers around and then Captain Dave Maloney decided to take on the Flames Capt. Kurt Bennet. Well, Bennet gave Maloney one of he worst beatings I've ever seen in hockey fight. Just a couple of recollections from back in the day. - OLDSCHOOL#6
Not trying to be a D**K here, but the Potvin sucks chant originated in during the 1979 playoffs after Potvin's dirty "hip check" of Ulf Nillson which broke Nillson's ankle, forced him out of the playoffs after only 2 games and essentially caused him injury problems enough to retire about a hundred games and 2 seasons later. |

They are (frank)ED. They are not buying out Parise and Suter. This was an anti-Minny ruling not an anti-Sather ruling oddly enough - mrhattrick27
As I have said here before, this bit of cap "legislation" was pushed for by Toronto's Brian Burke during the last lock out negotiations with the players union. Burke hated the mega contracts that were front loaded and despised the fact that he lost free agents to teams that outbid him based on it.
I still do not understand how contracts that were negotiated and were legal under the prior CBA all of the sudden became subject to the nuances of Burke's new "rules"" in the new CBA, which seemed to be extremely selective as they only hurt the few teams that had contracts like Redden's, Komisarik's and others.
The Toronto ownership was desperate to bring Roberto Loungo in as the answer to their problems in net. That their own President and General Manager would push for rules that would handicap the team should it sign Loungo, combined with the fact that the Leafs were the only team in the league that had not made the playoffs since the 2004 lockout sealed his fate and he was sh*tcanned. |
