I'm sorry, Jagr's seasons with the Rangers were mediocre and disappointing? 319 points in 277 games, including a 54-goal, 123-point effort coming out of the lockout?

You may consider him a "savvy businessman" but to many fans he's just a greedy aging and waining super star that continues to try to find leverage to sweeten his own purse.

There's no doubt Jagr is a HOF'r, but this business of trying to squeeze blood from a turnip in the attempts to gain every last possible cent out of the teams interested in him is an embarassment IMO.

Players like Jagr should be looking for that last elusive chance to hoist the cup, not nickel and diming teams in the league they once dominated. Call it greed, call it selfishness call it fair business or whatever, but situations like this will do nothing but further perpetuate the stigmas of being yet another European player that cares about nothing but their own agenda.

It's also sad to see such a highly respected and sought after player like Jagr tarnish his own legacy by holding the league hostage while using his negotiations as propoganda to garner more interest from leagues like the KHL.

Shame on Jaromir.

This would hold a lot more water if he hadn't won everything he could and still is playing in teams top-6's.

Hey EK, is there anything going on on the Miller/Vanek front? I know that Darcy said that there is no recent activity but he may be bluffing.
- benny948

Yup, they're both signing long term extensions with full nmc's.

You hearing anything on the Miller front? Rumblings that FLA might be interested but Buff would have to retain some of the dough? Any truth to that one??

NOTHING FALSE AT ALL..FACT..HE DIDNT SCORE, COULDNT KEEP UP..IF HE WAS SO GREAT, WHY DID DALLAS TRADE HIM, AND BOSTON NOT RESIGN HIM?..DONT SAY MONEY BECAUSE IF A TEAM WANTS SOMEONE BAD ENOUGH, THEY WILL MAKE THE CAP ROOM..HES DONE..END OF STORY.
- nascarguy

They traded him in order to add good assets from a guy who wasn't going to resign with them, and also in part as a favor to him to give him a run at the cup. Boston didn't resign him because they're a team that's close to the cap that has other priorities. Obviously he isn't a vital part of their core that they feel they need to move pieces just to keep him on board. Btw, TURNING YOUR CAPS LOCK ON DOESN'T HELP PROVE YOUR POINT.

Neither does Texas. And the cost of living is less
- Eklund

There is more big money in Dallas then there is in Florida. Maybe Ft Lauderdale has a higher density of millionaires but when talking overall Dallas has more millionaire types then Florida does so I'm not sure where the "cost of living is less" comes from. You are correct both states have no income tax.

The reason he signed with Dallas and not a team from Florida has nothing to do with cost of living. The Bolts weren't interested and the Cats didn't have the $ in their budget.

As I said a few days ago in another thread, maybe someone will back me up, Jagr has got to be the biggest mercenary in the league. They are all in it for the money, but he is way over the top. You've got maybe 1 good year left, play for a contender and try to win a cup! You really need the money that bad to sign with whoever pays the most. At least maybe we won't hear as much "spin" now when he signs with Carolina or the Oilers or something about how he signed there to mentor the young kids. Money money money
- FlyerAdam30

Exactly, he has maybe one year left, possibly two. After that, the paydays are over. We don't know what his financial situation is (there have always been rumors about his gambling), maybe he feels like he needs to make as much money as he can before it's all over. He doesn't owe anything to any one team, he's not breaking a contract for more money elsewhere. It's hard to begrudge a free agent for getting as much as he can. Most of us try to do the same in our own fields.

Yeah, I scratched my head when I read that too. He very nearly one MVP one year with New York.

And in 2005-2006 Jagrs team finished 6th and was swept in round1 by NJ. Can I change "mediocre" to "non-impactful"?
- Eklund

I don't think that's a fair statement either. Is there a personal vendetta here? Did we just find the one player that Eklund doesn't consider "one of the best guys in the business"?

None of this is new. He will sign with whatever team offers him the most money. That is how he ended up in the KHL, Philly and Dallas in the first place.
- LordStanley88

Isn't this exactly what just about every UFA does? They all pick their spots. What should the criteria for his decision be?

That solves the Goalie Issue then!

But seriously, no one has any new news on Lindros?

I heard he was working out and hoping for a camp invite.

Maybe its BS, maybe not?????

I don't care how many holes in the Devils line-up, nor how much money is available to spend I pray that Lou does NOT sign Jagr. I watched the entire playoffs and think he was a complete liability on the ice. Too old and too slow. Time to hang up the skates Jaromir!

There are reports that they are skating with Foppa and Anson Carter. They are going to all pick one team, like the Miami Heat debacle.
