He was surely mediocre with us. It's funny though, he still was over a PPG with the Caps, but it's considered mediocre because he was expected to put 120 points. - Blackstrom2
And in 2005-2006 Jagrs team finished 6th and was swept in round1 by NJ. Can I change "mediocre" to "non-impactful"? |

As for the Flyers though, they quickly found they had signed a rebooted Jagr. JJ 2.0. A player far from selfish in the room, far from lazy. A player who would act like a mentor and a coach to the young players on the team. A player who would teach Claude Giroux how to be a Star. - "eklund"
For half a season, at least, before getting traded to Boston. |

I remember him getting hurt, and not playing all the games/severely reduced ice time. But if he put up 120+ points, and the team finished sixth and the next highest scorer (his linmates) only had 79 points, that sounds more like a "the other 11 forwards problem" than a Jagr problem. |

As I said a few days ago in another thread, maybe someone will back me up, Jagr has got to be the biggest mercenary in the league. They are all in it for the money, but he is way over the top. You've got maybe 1 good year left, play for a contender and try to win a cup! You really need the money that bad to sign with whoever pays the most. At least maybe we won't hear as much "spin" now when he signs with Carolina or the Oilers or something about how he signed there to mentor the young kids. Money money money - FlyerAdam30

His attitude may have changed in the locker room, but to me he is the "same ol' Jagr." He's always been in it for himself. The difference now...he knows his skill set has diminished. Hence, if he had the same attitude he would have very little league interest. Always a smart guy, but also a selfish one. Now, just in a different way. |

You are correct. Good memory. Can I change it to "he sucked with the Caps, and didn't suck with the Rangers?" Lol. I was more thinking of his attitude pre-lockout to post-lockout. My exact memory was interviewing him one on one in his final year s a Ranger when I covered a Rangers/Predators game in the final season versus one on one interview with the flyers. A different guy. |

Quite honestly I knew something was up about Jagr when he signed with the Flyers that summer as Ek described in the blog. It made no sense to me why he didnt want to go back to Pitt to finish his career where it started. |

Hey EK, is there anything going on on the Miller/Vanek front? I know that Darcy said that there is no recent activity but he may be bluffing. |

"But he is also a savvy businessman"? He's a f'n money whor@.
This is coming from a person that always idolized Jagr. He's been my favorite player for years until the summer of 2011.. |

None of this is new. He will sign with whatever team offers him the most money. That is how he ended up in the KHL, Philly and Dallas in the first place. |

And then he did the same thing to the Flyers. Talked all off-season how about how much he loved playing here and the fans only to go to another club because they offered more money. Oh well. |

...and THAT is SAD. He's such a big part of the Penguins history. He just blew everything up.
Dallas payed what? $4.5M? That's a lot! He shouldn't be getting anything above $2.5M right now. |

NOTHING FALSE AT ALL..FACT..HE DIDNT SCORE, COULDNT KEEP UP..IF HE WAS SO GREAT, WHY DID DALLAS TRADE HIM, AND BOSTON NOT RESIGN HIM?..DONT SAY MONEY BECAUSE IF A TEAM WANTS SOMEONE BAD ENOUGH, THEY WILL MAKE THE CAP ROOM..HES DONE..END OF STORY. |

You may consider him a "savvy businessman" but to many fans he's just a greedy aging and waining super star that continues to try to find leverage to sweeten his own purse.
There's no doubt Jagr is a HOF'r, but this business of trying to squeeze blood from a turnip in the attempts to gain every last possible cent out of the teams interested in him is an embarassment IMO.
Players like Jagr should be looking for that last elusive chance to hoist the cup, not nickel and diming teams in the league they once dominated. Call it greed, call it selfishness call it fair business or whatever, but situations like this will do nothing but further perpetuate the stigma of being yet another European player that cares about nothing but his own agenda.
It's also sad to see such a highly respected and sought after player like Jagr tarnish his own legacy by holding the league hostage while using his negotiations as propoganda to garner more interest from leagues like the KHL.
Shame on Jaromir. |

I think he could work in a leafs uniform under Carlyle. At a reasonable price he could be an effective PP/SO player |
