Maybe Bowman brings in someone with experience to replace Carcillo? Preferably another guy who can win face offs.
Jared Smithson? - EKolb13
If he's healthy I'd like to see Stan give Manny Malhotra a chance. He's excellent on faceoffs, would spend time on the PK and likely could be signed to a cheap one year contract. |

I don't know. I don't think Malhotra hasn't been all that great since that devastating injury he had. I think there has to be something better out there for cheap. |

Eli, I'm a shaw fan but he will get the livin snot kicked out of him by any 1 of those guys you mentioned! & bollig is not NHL material, SB will look to add . you like jarrod smithson? now that would be a plus! - wonthecup10
I think Bollig is NHL material. He's not 82 game material, but I think he'd be effective for 40 or so games.
If Bollig can show up and give an effort like he did in game one of the SCF on a regular basis, I'd be happy. |

Brookbank can play D or Wing, maybe that's what saves him? - Ogilthorpe2
Maybe
Just seems when teams move a dman to wing it's cause they are less than good at D? Then that player would lose the advantage of being "able" to play both positions.
I dunno |

Yeah, I could go for that. Would he come to Chicago for around $800,000 for a season? |

absolutely! he looked great in that game! put the F'n puck right on the bruins stick for the game winner! the guy belongs right where you could keep an eye on him! in rockford! I like smithsonbut I wonder if moen is available! this division got tougher , SB will look elsewhere. jody shelley is still out there if bowman wants a legit situational player that can actually command respect from opposing players if the need arises. |

We don't need Jody Shelley. What we do need is a 4th line/13th forward who can win faceoffs, preferably play center, and possibly be able to play physically. |

Quite possibly.
At any rate, here's to the thought of Carcillo and Torres being able to stick it to the Vancouver Diving Team on a regular basis. May they cause the Sedins & company many headaches and bruised bodies. Even the occasional concussion too. |

Yeah, in Rockford. If Beach wants a spot with the Hawks, Beach has to earn it. |

Exactly. I would bet that most people here's clearest memory of Carcillo is the hit on his own teammate in the Finals for Philly. - NewToHockey
He had the OT winner in the final undefeated streak game against Colorado. That was pretty memorable! Plus he made the Sports Illustrated cover! That's his 15 seconds of Cicago fame! |

Trading Carcillo has nothing to do with the salary cap - it is more about the roster spot. Carcillo makes about the same money as any of the Rockford guys that could replace him, so losing him off the roster is not about money. I believe that Stan will get a vet sometime this summer to fill things out, and he wants the roster spot to do so. Also, his contract was low enough that he could be stashed in Rockford without any cap hit to the Hawks; although they would risk losing him by sending him down. |

Which makes sense in trading him for something.
I hope you're right, and Bowman brings in one more useful veteran to help round out the roster. |

I hope so, too. I think they just saw Carcillo as the 14th-15th best forward on their roster, and since he's been piling up the injuries they want the space to add someone better. I don't think losing him hurts the Hawks much, but the roster space may turn into a good player during this second phase of free agency (the bargain basement). |

Stan got rid of someone that, for better or worse, Q was probably not going to use much - free up a spot, free up cap space, more TDL flexibility, if nothing else.
St. Louis and Nashville - more physical? Yeah - but more physical than Boston and LA in the play-offs, who they beat basically without Carcillo? Doubt it, and certainly not as good.

Watching some of the play-off game replays on CSN with the luxury of being able to enjoy them now as games: that was some pretty damn good hockey all the way through.
And the Hawks were a pretty damn good team, 19 players almost every game. |

Carcillo is just a guy...who's injured ALOT...who takes many penalties.
He contributed little during his tenure as a Hawk, and I for one will not miss him.
Next up... |

I agree. It is a lot better watching it stress-free. you really can relax and enjoy all the plays and see things clearer. Love the LA series and this OT plus you look for all the hawks injuries and when they got them |

It worked out for them.... this time, but you see how many of these guys got the phuck kicked out of them! they are to be commmended! but I wouldn't push the envelope going into an 82 game season , being the hunted & the division getting alot more if you want to call it, dirtier, nastier,& more red ass! right now shaw aside a 40 year old & a clubfoot minorleaguer don't cut it. and I gotta think that if there was no stalberg, carcillo plays! either way time to move on. good luck in LA Danny! should be fun to watch with him, fraser & clifford going up against raffi, cooke, lappy, reeeves , backes , while we......... watch JT get shower raped! |

Yeah - but there was nothing like the feeling of watching as it happened Seabrook's goal against Detroit, Toews pass and Kane's goal against LA, Beckell's and Bolland's goals 17 seconds apart, the last minute countdown against Boston - will we ever have those - or that many - highs watching hockey again?
A special 4 weeks to be sure. |
