I have no idea why Vanek, Drury AND Briere made that master list. Order them however you wish, but certainly leave Vanek and Drury off.
Here is a list of my least favorite Sabres of all time to keep the conversation going:
1. Zhitnik
2. Smehlik
3. Hecht
4. Kalinen
5. Wilson
6. Kotalik
7. Tallinder (without Lydman)
8. Lydman (without Tallinder)
9. W. Primeau
10. Sekera - xforbostonx
you have Gaustad of all players and left out Pomminville? |

One dimensional yet played the pk and scored 30 more points than the next closest guy in a season. For him to not be in a top 20 list of all time Sabres list is a joke.
If Vanek is on there Satan should too as he did more with less. - dadeadhead
Maybe I'm slightly undervaluing Satan, and I'm no Vanek fan but, I don't think Satan did more than Vanek.
There is an out of town. He's just not the kind of player you win with and he's not the kind of player I like on the team that I root for.
As far as him doing more with less, I think Vanek has been surrounded by mostly garbage since Dru/Briere have left. There are more players on late 90's teams that I'd rather have then on the team over the past few years |

my opinion of the top 20 that I posted on an earlier blog
My list isn't just based on skill but also on impact and importance to the team
20. Vanek
19. Miller
18. Luce
17. Robert
16. Foligno
15. Peca
14. Hawerchuk
13. Briere
12. Drury
11, Ramsay
10. Schoenfeld
9. Housley
8. Mogilny
7. Andreychuk
6. Ramsey
5. Gare
4. Martin
3, LaFontaine
2. Perrault
1. Hasek - RayHatesDomi
I like the order of this better. Perrault was the original Sabres ans as talented as Bobby Orr...yes I said that! No better playmaker I've seen except for The Great One. Hasek just simply dominated and absolutely stole games on a nightly basis...hard to argue who was more impact full..so either could be #1. LaFontain completely energized the team when, much like recently the core was under-performing..and absolute high impact player who lifted the play of the entire team not just his line area...a true gem of a player..no way you can Eli,innate him for some imaginary line of 5 years. Nice job!

Mogilny should be top 5 if not in the top 3, he was a dirty witch in his prime on the Sabres. The sombrero game was a classic, he was one funny RuSki.

Housley should be much higher. Three people in franchise history that made you stand up on an end to end rush. Perreault, Mogilny, Housley.
He should be higher than Ramsey for sure. Mike was consistently average. Blocked a lot of shots but in a way that sometimes put himself out of position. Chelios called out Housley but Ramsey could have blocked decided game 7 OT shot against Boston.(the way I remember it)
I like that Hajt is on list. Glad Horton is not. Hawerchuk should not be on list. He's a Jet. Patty should be lower. As hard as it is to admit, he's remembered more as an islander.
Not a huge Satan fan but could argue him just cracking top twenty leading team in scoring so many years in a row in a Lindy Ruff system. - doctordizzle

Matthew Barnaby's teeth?
God, as a fan of an opposing team, most annoying player ever. He just had that face you wanted to punch. Would have loved him on the Flyers though. Dude never backed down from a fight, whether it was a goon or a goalie. But really, guy was probably the second best pest in NHL history, right behind Tikanen. |

Reasons why Drury/Briere are on the list is simply because they were part of the Greatest Sabres team in Franchise history. Its a shame that staff infection hit and we had a full lineup of AHL scrubs on D against Carolina. Oh well its the Buffalo way. |

Barnaby is the greatest agitator of all time hands down. I haven't seen a player quit like him ever. |

He's good, but Tikanen was better. Difference was Barnaby was willing to take a huge pounding to do it, while Tikanen wouldn't go with the bugger boys, he'd just have them take a double minor.

They certainly did. Loved when Rob Ray hammered that fan who go onto the ice after Malarchuk got submarined. |

Sorry to burst the bubble. But hasek was by far the best sabre ever. He is argueblely the best goalie ever. And BTW if "#11" is so important to you. Go learn how to spell his name. - Mentalorgasm5
First of all, thank you for proving my point that people overrate Hasek. Best goilie ever, come on.
As far as spelling Perreault, I was lazy on my phone's keyboard. I can spell the guys name.
And Perreault is the greatest Sabre of all time, no debate. The leading scorer in team history, his entire career in Buffalo, and being as great as he was while being the first ever selection of the team are all things that tip it in his favor. |

If I had to make a top twenty list of the best Players to ever wear a Sabres uni it would consist of: Perrault, Martin, Robert, C.Ramsay, Luce, Gare, Andreychuk, Turgeon, Foligno, Vanek, LaFontaine, Molgilny, M.Ramsay, Housley, Hajt, Schoenfeld, Ruff, Horton, Hasek and Miller (in no particular order).
Interestingly enough it just so happens that my idea of the Sabres best comes out to 18 skaters (12 forwards, 6 D-men) and two goalies. That would be quite an All-time team. |
