I can understand he isnt the prototypical #1C. Which is also why he doesnt get paid like one (thankfully).
So would folks be happy to have him as a #2C at 4.25? Still seems like a decent cap hit for a #2 guy. - TonkaPhaneuf
agreed, but this all sounds very logical.
a far cry from "bozak is the reason the leafs made the playoffs. FACT" |

love it when ppl post a list of players who will be UFA in 2 years.... OMGGGG Crosby, Malkin and Toews are all gonna hit the open market!!! - DoubleDown
HAHAHAH yup
as if no teams ever considering signing guys before they hit ufa
if the guys contract is set to expire any time in the next 5 years... he's a ufa and he's coming to toronto cause he's from here, and at a discount |

I just wanted to let him walk or resign for 2 years at 3 mill tops so he doesn't become Grabo #2 which he will now.

That's the thing, everyones rags on Bozak but he has played for two NHL coaches and both have used him as a #1 C. There must be a reason why other than "well, we have no one else" - PatC80
Hmmmmmmm no, there was no other reason. |

I never agreed with that statement. The leafs made the playoffs for a variety of reasons. Id start with better goaltending and a better system for the team that Carlyle instituted. |

what it comes to is this
bozak is pencilled in as the leafs first line centre
now while that could change come training camp its prolly best for all of us to simply accept it.
what i havent seen mentioned much here is maybe nonis sees bozak as his eventual number 2 (which is how he is being paid) with the hope that kadri really comes into his own within a couple seasons to make the whole number one centre debate end once and for all.
in fairness people have suggested it, but i dont agree it will be to start the upcoming season.. i think its at least a year away before truly leaning on kadri as a no. 1 guy |

Nothing to assume, Nonis said he made the offer to Bozak on July 4th, prior to Free agency starting. Bozak agreed to the deal on July 5th. - PatC80
When nobody other than the Leafs offered him a contract? |

I think thats exactly it, no other options.
If Lupul played the full season, Bozak would be tied with Dion for 7th on the team in scoring. - senstroll

in grabo's defense...at least bozak gets to play with legit top 3/6 wingers and has some powerplay time to gather more points. |

which is my point. I'm not necessarily ripping on bozak for the sake of doing so.
I am ripping on the statement itself and how it couldn't be further from the truth. Like I said, serviceable player, and like you said, 4.2m for 2c as the cap goes up isn't THAT bad.
would i of rather had vinny at 4.5 sure, but it is what it is |

I thnk Kadri *the dream* will become 1st line center about half way thru the season. my 2 cents! |

entirely possible
all i know is they gave bozak second line centre money for 5 years
that tells me that thats where the management of the leafs eventually see him fitting once everything starts to come together. |

Does anyone have a clue as to how RC coaches? Some games you might see Bolland get the most time at C, other times Bozak or Kadri

It is when you are the #1 guy getting the most ice time. I expect you to be around the top of your team in scoring and to be a decent defensive guy. a lot to ask, maybe..but winning teams have that, and I want to win

Kadri/Bolland/Bozak/McClement - steve362
nah.. bolland will be used on the third line 5 on 5 and in a shutdown PK role is my bet
prolly get second PP time.. whereas bozak probably wont see much PP this year.
I think Kadri will slide into bozak;'s spot on the PP
or Kadri's line will be kept in tact for the second PP and Bolland will be used as the net presence on the first one. |

Carlyle is going to (frank)ing love having Bolland. That alone drops our G.A.A. before mentioning Bernier. |

yeah it seems that way, 4.2 is a lot for a 3rd line C. |
