Might depend also on how things go with Franson, Fraser and Gunnarsson.

Is it me or is the big stay at home guys that seem to have the biggest need to stay in the jr's? OEL, Karlson, Doughty, Del Zotto, Carlson, Kulikov, Leddy - all pmd's who stuck as 18 or 19 yr olds and have developed well.

defense is always harder than offense

the problem i dont like about having rielly up is that we dont have a good solid shutdown guy for him to play with who could compensate and make up for his inevitable mistakes that all rookies make.

and carlyle is a defense first coach.. if he plays weak in his own end and carlyle starts to limit his ice time etc.. i dont see how that could help his development

let him go back to junior where the pressure is off.. then see if a back room deal can be made to get his current team to move him to a competitor

I think it depends on the kid too, Seguin was/is a wild child.. While I agree he should have time to mature, plenty of kids where able to deal with it and have success. Seeing him go through a serious knee surgery and come out of it without missing a beat speaks volumes about his character

or his luck lol

like i said.. keep him for the 9.. give him the taste.. let franson sit if his demands are too stupid.

his price would come down quick if he sees he isnt as needed as he thinks he is

And they're still looking for one of those to play with Gardiner too.

These two are defensively amazing. Karlsson can't have the puck taken away from him. Carlson and Kulikov are both also known as two-way guys.

yup.. right now the leafs D is relatively mobile and can put up points

so i dont see where rielly can help the leafs either.

thats the flip side of the coin.. the leafs arent going to put a guy in there for development anymore. they got their taste of the post season and the goal will be to get back there..

not to develop prospects. not at the NHL level.

I didn't mean to say they weren't. I meant the BIG stay at home guys like Schenn, Cowen, Gudbransson, etc... seem to need a little time - probably to get to speed and adjust to the skating.

All those guys who have had success can skate. And I think most of them (maybe not Karlsson) were physically mature.

I'm not pushing for Rielly to be pencilled in but isn't he described as the best skater in his class? And he's physically pretty solid already. Over 6' and over 200 lbs.

I like Gunnarsson. Nothing special but he fits that description.

Leafs were smart locking up Bozak. Great chemistry with kessel. Proven face off specialist. He either maintains the same production or improves as kessel gets better. Retain him for 2-3 seasons then trade him in his prime after acquiring a true number #1centre who decides to test the FA market. His contract will entice an FA because it shows we want and will pay for talent for long term. Or keep him as a True second line and penalty killing centre. I've seen a lot of games and he has more skill and drive then luck.

I don't know much about prospects either, but I do know this:

Unless the kid is drafted in the top 3, any suggestion to play him with the big club four months after he is drafted should be met with a punch to the crotch.

Oh really...

Well Patrice Bergeron was draft in the 2nd round and ended up on Boston's roster as an 18 year old..

Tell me again how he turned out??

PS... If they're ready... they're ready!!

Ryan O'Reilly, too. I agree to an extent. If the kid has NHL size and durability then he should be given every opportunity to steal a roster spot. But kids who don't, regardless of the skill should be sent back to junior with a bulk-up plan.

Yeah, 4mil is a little too much. I think Kadri and Franson should both get a 2 year/6mil deal and prove they deserve to cash in, but I'd be an awful player agent so they'll probably get more.

I don't see a situation where Franson, Gunnarsson, and Liles are all on this team next year. One or two will be moved. Kadri should be priority #1.

Probably waiting to see if Gunnarsson is still on the roster in September before he chooses.

Not at all. In 2-3 years Franson is asking for 5+. Sign him now at 4, which is peanuts.
