Agreed I heard randy say in interview he likes what Detroit does with their rookies, throw them in to make sure he knows what they are and their potential. I would imagine we will.see that happen.more in an 82 game season.
I also think its going to let us watch Rielly on the big club for at least a week into the season - Jay Uller
not sold on that yet.. i think he would have to have not just a good camp but a dominate one.
the leafs are kinda flooded with offensive minded d-men right now
thats why i think he goes back to junior this year.. dominates that level and gets another WJC in |

Anybody think Gauthier is ready to step into the fourth line C role yet? That kid looks like a beast. In which case i could see Colborne being packaged with Liles and sent off in a trade.

He won't stick, but someone will sit and he will get a couple games. A little taste of the show could bring Rielly to a different level in Jr. confidence is a hell of a thing |

What a lottery the NHL can be, from both sides: Franson goes from the doghouse to being teacher's pet; Nonis is expected to cough up a 5 year plus contract to a guy who's had one good year. |

This. Carlyle will sit him down and say if you wanna play in the NHL you have to throw the body...... either he will or we will see a different prospect. - Jay Uller
this.
cody franson hits per game average
rookie: 0.902 hits per game
year 2: 1.013 hits per game
year 3: 1.789 hits per game
year 4: 2.755 hits per game
his physical play stepped up under carlyle without question |

Seriously. Was Matt Stajan a 50 point player in Toronto? Yes. You don't win with Matt Stajan in your lineup. - honesthockey
Matt Stajan, being the only 50 point player in NHL history, is hence, the only comparable here. Good on you for catching that. |

Completely agree, after the first few weeks when teams get more physically imposing he might not be able to handle it.. But with that said scouts seemed to think he handled the step up in size with ease. .. But we are deep enough to bring him in slower, too many guys deserve a look right now |

Just asking...
I really know nothing about the kid, except that he is big.
I'm just hoping we move Liles but i think we will have to package someone with him. Colborne was my only idea, if gauthier made him expendable.

Why can't we hold off on trading our young assets, Bozak emerged as a decent player so we wanted to trade Kadri, Reilly was picked so we wanted to trade Gardiner. Now Gauthier is picked so we trade Colborne? Stop the madness! |

i suppose it would depend on what comes back.. but yeah i agree .. colborne would be a def consideration.
but then again.. the leafs strength would be their defensive prospects.. liles coupled with percy or finn? who knows. |

yeah.. what bothers me when it comes to rushing him is that he really has only had two full seasons of junior because his second was a wash.
i'd like to see him go dominate.. although I am sure the leafs wish his junior team didnt suck balls the way they do. |

Seguin only had two seasons, I could see Nonis wanting to send him down if he was going to contend for a memorial cup.. But his team is terrible unless he gets traded** beat me to it ahaha |

yup.. and look at what a pro seguin has become.
i honestly dont think a 18-19 your old kid should be playing at that level.. too much money and success too soon will mess a kid up.. especially in toronto
i'd argue schenn's development was hampered by wilsons decision to keep him at such a young age
whereas, looking at kadri.. who was brought along properly.. seems to have adjusted to pro life without confidence issues and setbacks.

I don't know much about prospects either, but I do know this:
Unless the kid is drafted in the top 3, any suggestion to play him with the big club four months after he is drafted should be met with a punch to the crotch. |

Might depend also on how things go with Franson, Fraser and Gunnarsson.
Is it me or is the big stay at home guys that seem to have the biggest need to stay in the jr's? OEL, Karlson, Doughty, Del Zotto, Carlson, Kulikov, Leddy - all pmd's who stuck as 18 or 19 yr olds and have developed well. |

I think it depends on the kid too, Seguin was/is a wild child.. While I agree he should have time to mature, plenty of kids where able to deal with it and have success. Seeing him go through a serious knee surgery and come out of it without missing a beat speaks volumes about his character |

Especially when the lad can barely score for the final 34 games of the year. |
