? Shultz is Gardners old buddy. Whitney can still play the game. Just need a hard nosed defender added after that. Moving him in this scenario wouldn't hurt the d at all but would land a guy with huge upside. |

The Leafs don't need Shultz they're set for years with Rielly/Gardiner. |

Whitney, Rielly, Gardiner, Liles, Justin Schultz, and Franson.
Bernier would be demanding a trade in approximately 3 weeks into the season. |
|
|
|
Dion will be the big fish come this yrs trade deadline...The Leafs will be out by than and should be able to fetch a really good package for Dion..
Someone will over pay to get him for a playoff run.. |

I know you guys think Dion leaving would be the end of the line, I personally think it's addition through subtraction. I do think this year might see a bit of a regression (albeit marginal), but in the long run, they would have a core of very good up and coming guys. All young except Liles. |

I don't understand how you think the team is better without Dion. |

Way to weak in the middle...It's not crazy to think Kadri struggles this season as many 2nd yr players have suffered from it..That leaves the team with Bozak..Recipe for disaster if ya ask me.. |

I think he runs around in his end and is a crap defensemen. He is good offensively, but as you said, they have plenty of those. He is also brutal at his front of the net coverage. Probly the worst "number 1" guy in the league at that department. And yes he has played with some crappy guys, but he still has a responsibility to cover that guy and in the playoffs that was his and the teams achiles heel. Pre lockout rules where he could latch on when his lack of footspeed was exposed - good player. Post lockout where he can't, no thanks. Then you add the de-bockle in Montreal with Prust, and his general none fighting anymore, which used to be one of his big assets and the fact that there's no way they can sign him and kessel next year, let him go. In the long run it will be way better for the team. |

And how does trading him for Ryan Whitney and Justin Schultz improve our "front of the net" presence? |

Kadri's already taken his lumps. I think he picks right up where he left off last year (even if he did slow down in the last 15-20 games, still put up points). |

Eff Gunnarsson. I rode an elevator with him and Schenn in TB and I could probably snap his pencil neck with one hand. We don't need d like him.
I also got the feeling that if I told Schenn a riddle he would have an aneurysm.

3rd time posting this in a month..
We get it, Gunnerson held your arms and Schenn tea bagged you in the elevator
get over it |

There's nobody to pick up his minutes on the team now and in the wings unless Rielly becomes that guy, but he's got years of development ahead of him before that's going to be even a remote possibility.
Dion needs a healthy, another-year-under-his-belt Gunnarsson to play as his #2 consistently or we find a better #2 option out there. Again, like #1s, #2s are just as difficult to find. |

Sure there is. Who says they have to have one guy playing all those minutes. Platoon, and spread em out. Dion is gonna get 7 plus million dollars, they can't keep him. |
