Phanuef was paired for part of last season (top unit) with Kostka, who was let go, and to my knowledge hasn't signed anywhere else.

this would save the Canucks a bunch against the CAP, not that the Canucks have a CAP problem, but it would be nice to have a couple extra million to sign the 5-6 roster players they still need.. and not have to use half their AHL roster.

Now the guards in Oblivion, with their soothing voices, actually made me feel safe.

Stealing a line from Dragon's Den here, but the valuation is off.

Phaneuf has more value than Smid and Petry, but less value than Hall, Ebs.
The only deal I could see being fair for both sides in terms of value is Gagner plus a good prospect (not Nurse or Klefbom) and maybe a mid draft pick.

I'm not saying that Toronto wants to or even Edmonton, but that's my thoughts on that.

Oilers "top" (don't want to call him that because they don't really have one) defenseman last year statistically:

Justin Schultz 8-19-27 and a -17.

Dion Phaneuf 9-19-28 and a -4.

This is not to mention he would play against the top line every night, and he played for about half the year with two pathetic defenseman in Holzer and Kostka.

And no we don't want Hemsky. Or Smid and some garbage.
