Watched a game in an a hour on Leafs TV last night against Florida from November 2009. It really makes you appreciate what Burke and team accomplished while he was here. These were the lines. No joke, I can't believe I actually thought this team had a chance at the playoffs at the time!

Anybody wish they had used the buyout of Komi on Liles?

Komi sucks but he had only one year left on his deal and was in the AHL.

Kinda sorta. But I think they might still be able to trade Liles, even if it's just for a 7th. Komi was untradeable.

I posted this a few times before and after the buyouts.

Regular buyout on Komi still saves 3 M a year and use the compliance buyout on Liles.

Would have an extra 2.4 M in cap space right now. Mind you we would need to replace Liles.

Cap geek wont' let me do the Komi buyout calc anymore but Komi was a bit of a backdiving contract so his cap hit on a regular buyout would've been about 2.16. So looking at Nonis' options:

1. Buy out Liles (compliance) and Komi (regular) and he would save about 6.2 milly.

2. Buy out Komi (compliance) saves 4.5 right away and I bet he assumes that his worst case scenario is to trade Liles and eat some salary so he'll save a couple of million that way too.

That has to be what Nonis is thinking.
