Now we're talking. He absolutely needs work on his defensive play, but the signs are promising. and yes, his offence was miles better. The real issue with him is getting him attuned to a full NHL schedule from a NCAA one. That just takes a little time.

Guys like Gardiner and Schultz can learn, over time, as they get stronger and more experienced how to play better defensively. Coach helps a ton too, system-wise and individually.

What you can't teach the plugs is what both Gardiner and Schultz have in spades.

Not really... I accept that not only do mini-vans exist, but that they also have a purpose.

I also accept that I would never buy one, and that any guy who does should have his balls removed with the blunt edge of a rusty spoon....

Have to think if they unload Phaneuf they are either getting something back immediately to fill his spot, or have something locked up already.

Hard to imagine they would do it with only an offer sheet as their potential replacement.

As much as phaneuf gets hated on ... the leafs would be in a looooot worse shape losing him without finding an immediate replacement.

Without a doubt, you can not get rid of Phaneuf if you don't have a replacement ready to log 25 mins a game. He is still their best defensemen, don't like the cap hit, but until there is someone to step up to take his place he is ours.

I really think that Nonis is going to pull of a major trade this summer.

I assume that Colborne is likely to play that third line winger spot with Kuli on the other side. Maybe Ashton would do it too, but I see him slotting in more on the fourth

i read that phaneuf would be the 7th defenseman in vancouver

I don't know, we as fans would like to think these GM's and their staff have everything planned and figured out. But after hearing Nonis' press conference after the Clarkson and Bozak signings where he said they did not know what was going to happen after buying out Grabo the day before...makes me think that they likely worry/plan these deals out less that we do here in this forum.
