I like Phaneuf, Gardiner, Gunner, and Franson going into the season as a top 4. I think it's pretty solid.

The best defense though, will be the fact the Leafs have 2 of the better younger goalies in the entire NHL.

I would say that one of the best defensive players is fine and nothing more than a victim of his teams play and linemates. Its kind of weird how you state the obviousness of it then argue against it...

I didn't argue against it, it's just obvious that if your team is bad, they're letting in more goals than scoring. But if you're the worst on your team for +/- then that's not a good sign...

Phaneuf is terribly underrated. The guy is viewed as a joke in the league yet look at his stats, and how many minutes he plays against the best players.

He looked solid and played big minutes in the playoffs. The big question is, can he pick up where he left off and do it during an entire season. His offensive abilities are damn impressive.
