Thank you.

Sure, he makes bad plays. Overcompensates for the fact that he has partners such as Kostka and Holzer. But he would still make every single team in the league, and be a top guy on most of them.

all jokes aside

Phaneuf is a top 15 D man in today's game

- homiedclown

He is prone to mistakes and has flaws in his game.

I think 6.5 is a little too much and I think when he starts to creep up to 30 minutes a night it is too much.

He is a top-pairing Dman and anyone who says otherwise is just stupid, or blindly hating on the Leafs as usual.

So true...when the Devils lost in the cup finals to LA, I could give a cat's a$$ that they made it there, winning is the only option I care about. The pain just hurts more when your the 1st place loser
- Gambi99

agreed because when you make it there and lose, you know you had the chance. not making it all you have is what if's. like the old saying..."nobody remembers who came in 2nd"

He is pretty funny.

When you realize that he is the purest example of a troll, you can actually get a laugh out of what he says.

There's about 10 other defensemen I'd flat-out rather have, probably 15 if we had another stable guy would could play a solid stay at home game outside of Gunnarsson or Fraser (if he resigns), but yes, he's still a legit top pairing defenseman.

I don't think Dion is a terrible defenceman at all but he is not a guy to build your back end around. He's at best a good complimentary piece. Dion would be better if he wasn't asked to do so much. I think the 'C' is misplaced on him and he would be good on a team with a bonafide star defenceman. That way Phaneuf could focus on playing physical and not having to try and be an offensive guy so much.

NJ doesn't need to add any more D. They already have enough of that. They need offence.

Also, there is no way Dion gets anywhere close to $6.5M on his next contract.

My god, an actual post about the topic! It's a miracle!

But yeah, that's the question to be considered. Think it'd be tough to get something to happen. Phaneuf currently being a pending UFA after next season can't help the value. Yet there is still plenty of value to the Leafs keeping him around. Not sure what kind of trade would be possible and would leave both sides satisfied.

- FlareKnight

I just can't see the Leafs trading him, the blue line would be weakened severely by his departure. Given the emergence of the current defence line up I can see Dion's minutes coming down which translates into stronger play and less mistakes. Look to increased minutes in Gardiner, Franson and Fraser.

I back everything up with stats and facts. I won the hockeybuzz playoff pool, I actually know what I'm talking about. Prock doesn't know anything about hockey, he just trolls for the heck of it.

I would say he gets close to it.

SOMEONE will pay him that. In fact, it would not surprise me if the Leafs did.

It is supply and demand.

Where is the supply of guys who can replace his overall game?

Would you be happy if the Leafs extended him for 5 years at $6.5 per? Heck he may want a raise to $7!

Devils already have a log jam of old defenseman.

Unless Toronto is taking back Volchenkov or Salvador, but why would they do that?

- MannySilvers

Maybe Volchenkov will be used to get offense i.e unsigned RFA Chris Stewart.

Wearing the "C" has often changed the way guys played, and in Dion this may be the case. I just don't see how that can change at this point, just hopping he can mature into this role.

Reality, this team is likely 2 years away from going deep into the playoff rounds, hoping that he will peek at the right time along with the others....
