I really don't like it... has a weird feel to me. I can't explain it, it just doesn't feel like a place that I could make home... - lumlums
I'm not being funny, have you ever spent time there? Because I like it does not mean anyone else likes it. Just never heard anyone say they got a bad feeling from the mountains and the city of Calgary.
Well people from Edmonton will trash Calgary. Ha ha. |

I've spent some time there, for sure Had a couple of week-long conferences there, plus other random visits with the wife. The mountains are obviously amazing. We're not too far away in Edmonton, but still, Calgary wins that one....
I just find that I'm more of a fan of the blue-collar cities. Can't explain it. Maybe the fact that I grew up in an old mining town in England? I dunno, I just find the people in Edmonton more.... genuine. |

Ok, so lets remove the coloured shades a minute.
In terms of production, Markov and Phaneuf aren't too far off. Markov has slightly better career highs.
In terms of the physical side of defense, Phaneuf wins hands down. Significantly more hits and blocks.
In terms of contract, Markov wins. $5.75m is more friendly than $6.5m. Both are UFA this year and will get a raise. Phaneuf is 6.5 years younger.
Markov achieved well this year playing with the Norris trophy winner. Phaneuf did okay playing much of the time with AHL guys.
Overall, I'd say that they are relatively comparable. Phaneuf brings more physical defense, Markov is better offensively and carrying the rush. There really isn't a major amount of difference between them though.
So now I ask, would you giive up Markov for a 1st round pick? - lumlums
Some good points, Phaneuf seems way more durable, is younger some sizeable differences in their game. I wouldn't trade Dion for Markov and a third. Habs make a straight deal in a second. I know that wasn't your question but not sure it was a fair comparison.

NHL hit stats are so inaccurate its not even funny...in some buildings you bump a guy and its a hit and in others you have to knock him on his ass to get credit.
Dion is a decent player but overpaid and not very smart, one of the most over rated guys in the league for sure. How many times have you seen him lose the puck at the offensive blue line and then coast back as the other team scores.
not to mention letting guys stand in front of the net in game seven of a certain playoff series - flashfire

Interesting. I was just in both cities, I like them both. I found Edmonton people pretty chill. But I found Calgary to be pretty chill too. I know their is massive rivalry between the cities. I found parts of downtown Edmonton felt kinda American. |

Yeah, downtown Edmonton is definitely less vibrant than downtown Calgary. I do however really like the area just west of downtown, lots of cool cafes, bars, restaurants etc. |

If Phaneuf is as good as TML fans claim the. There is no way he is available for trade. If he is available for trade then that tells you all you need to know about Ho his value us perceived by Toronto. Either way, NJ would lose. Pass. Our summer has sucked bad enough as it is. - WayneZ
I do believe Dion is valuable to our team.... however having said that... Toronto needs to sign Kessel also next year and the thinking is they can only resign 1 without having SALARY CAP issues in the future. Seeing as the Leafs are LOADED with Defensive prospects... Dion is the likely odd man out!
So, by moving Dion and his large contract for some assests like prospects and picks.... then it provides us with the ability to give guys like Finn, Percy, Reilly, Blacker the chance to make the team in a few years and still have the ability to resign them when their Rookie deals expire.
Pluss Jake Gardiner who is no longer a prospect but potentially a #1 Pairing Dman this year or next.... depending on how he develops, can assume more minutes and take some of the valuable minutes Dion had. Now you can see why we MAY need to move a guy like Dion.
Having said all of this though I personally like Dion... but he needs a better partner to be more effective because he has been playing with guys who probably are not top pairing dmen... which hurts his game and the Leafs as a whole! If they find someone to play with Dion then maybe keeping him is the better way to go.
Time will tell!
PS Totally forgot about Petter Grandburg who will likely make our team this year and could be a great assest down the road! |

Not on you're life would I do that trade.
I love Letang's game but that is waaaaay to much to be paying to get a guy back with a riduculously large contract!!!
Maybe it would be something like
ONE of Percy, Finn OR Blacker + Gunaarsson + Colbourne + 2014 2nd.... and thats it only because Letang's contract is HUGE and pricey and by taking it we are helping Pittsburg in the long run so they have money to sign others down the road!!!!
PS Kulemin is untouchable!!! |

Whyte is the other side of the river... if you go west of downtown on jasper to 124st and 102 ave, that neighbourhood is pretty awesome! |

"Never underestimate defense and toughness to Lou"....
Are we talking about the same Phenuef from Toronto? Defense and toughness eh, you would think that after watching Stevens for so long he could recognize that Dion lacks in both depts. |

But if every team plays in different buildings around the league every night, wouldn't it just be a wash? - gravyface
No.
One team plays in a building 41 times - so if the "judge" under- or over-reports, it is going to skew the numbers.
Ditto for a team that visits 6 times, as opposed to once.
If you go to the NHL.com website and look at the team stats, you can compare numbers like "hits" for teams for home and away. There are some huge discrepencies, calling into question the validity of these numbers.
I'm simply not a fan of them: they are far too subjective. |

Why doesn't Kovulchuk's contract count against the Devils cap space? Wasn't that the way to prevent long term contracts and then have someone retire? |
