untrue. we have.... three... ish...
once you get to smith and butler.."good" becomes inaccurate.
as much people who love Brodie...
our best two are still Wideman and Gio. They are both solid defensively who have offensive upside and play the game smart. - j.henderson
Wideman? really? uhhh....OK. |

No not every team has a #1 dman. The teams that have them are Boston (Chara), Chicago (Keith), LA (Doughty), Minnesota (Suter), Montreal (PK), Nashville (Weber), Ottawa (Karlsson), Pittsburgh (Letang), St Louis (Pietrangelo), Vancouver (Hamhuis), and Winnipeg (I do consider big buff to be this). So by my standards that's 11, if you really want to be loose with the term, maybe 14 true #1 dmen in the whole league. That doesn't count future #1, which there are also a few of. Teams that have just misses who are good #2 dmen are Anaheim (Beauchemin), Calgary (Wideman), Chicago (Seabrook), Columbus (Johnson), Dallas (Gonchar), Detroit (Kronwall), Montreal (Markov), NY Rangers (Girardi), Philadelphia (Timonen), Phoenix (Yandle), San Jose (Boyle), St Louis (Bouwmeester), Tampa Bay (Hedman), Toronto (Phaneuf), Vancouver (Edler), Washington (Alzner, Carlsson), Winnipeg (Bogosian). - JAKEw1234
Hamhuis and Wideman??? Even Canuckleheads would tell you Edler is better. Flames fans would tell you Giordano is better. |

Eh cut it however you want Wideman is still an all star dman and Hamhuis is still Vancouvers #1 dman. Edler is close to it, real close. I just don't think he'd be able to lead a teams D core, but he is an awesome compliment to a true #1. |

He's without a doubt a 6 million/yr defenseman. - quinnjj
He's just one of those guys, ya know? I don't think he is worth it but plenty of people do. I just hope its not my team that gives him the big contract but it also wouldn't surprise me at all if the did. I mean they did just sign Streit to that wonderful contract sooooo who knows. |

It would be better if he had 3 or 4 years left on his deal. That would be some cost certainty. As it is the price is going up at the end of the year and it could get ugly. |

Mike Green had 26P in 35GP. Played 25 mins a night.
Marc Staal played 24:27 coming off an injury in NYR.
Yea. They're top D men in the league - TheNugeIsHuge
Marc Staal will never be a #1. He has no offensive talent. Green was bad defensively for 2 years prior to this season, and still isn't as good as Dion is defensively. |

A #1 D man, to me, is a guy that can play 25 mins a night successfully. jay bouwmeester is a #1D man. Marc Staal is a #1 D man |

It was tough to tell last year. Roles were flopped around a bunch. With JBO Wideman and Brodie rushing the puck.. Gio rarely took those opportunities. He turned into more of a defensive minded guy. Later on in the year he turned over the puck a bunch too.
Still has all the skills, but Gio and Wideman are pretty close. Both played pretty steady.
And yeah... Wideman isn't an All Star. He put up points at the start of the year.. but trailed off once JBO and Brodie took more of a role. |
