It absolutely is. It's just an extension of his current deal that takes him right up to age 36.

By the end of that deal, the cap could very well be 90 million dollars. It's still a good cap hit even if he is only a second pairing guy by that time.

No not every team has a #1 dman. The teams that have them are Boston (Chara), Chicago (Keith), LA (Doughty), Minnesota (Suter), Montreal (PK), Nashville (Weber), Ottawa (Karlsson), Pittsburgh (Letang), St Louis (Pietrangelo), Vancouver (Hamhuis), and Winnipeg (I do consider big buff to be this). So by my standards that's 11, if you really want to be loose with the term, maybe 14 true #1 dmen in the whole league. That doesn't count future #1, which there are also a few of. Teams that have just misses who are good #2 dmen are Anaheim (Beauchemin), Calgary (Wideman), Chicago (Seabrook), Columbus (Johnson), Dallas (Gonchar), Detroit (Kronwall), Montreal (Markov), NY Rangers (Girardi), Philadelphia (Timonen), Phoenix (Yandle), San Jose (Boyle), St Louis (Bouwmeester), Tampa Bay (Hedman), Toronto (Phaneuf), Vancouver (Edler), Washington (Alzner, Carlsson), Winnipeg (Bogosian).

You don't NECESSARILY have to have a true #1 d man. The Leafs in 93 were within 1 Kerry Fraser fuk away from going to the cup final without a true #1 d man. They had some great #2's, #3's. #4's. #5's. #6's & #7's. They had a very nice balanced mix that worked terrific as a unit but no #1.
