No, I didn't say give up Nuge but i'd part with the 2014 1st rounder in a heart-beat. Those are the type of moves that are "BOLD" as MacT wants to do.

There's never a gurantee the 1st rounders will pan out, you know what you're getting in Simmonds & the guy would help the Oilers out more than most people even know.

- newmy

Yeah, but I don't think he's available for a 1st rounder. He's a former 1st and they paid fairly dearly to get him. Unless they had locker room issues with him I don't see why they would trade him. Even with their tight cap situation I think they'd a)LITR Pronger b) Trade Mezaros c) trade Hartnell and maybe some other fix still before they traded him for a mere 1st rounder.

Yeah he's a great player.

I don't need to remind you that Sam Gagner if completely healthy would have posted five 50+ point seasons and was on pace for a 65 point season this year. Other fans jump down our throats if we say he's a 45-55 point player let alone a 50 point player so I was just having some fun with you.

- Morris

Problem with Gags is he's like the bass player from Nirvana. Good at his job and solid all around but the flashier names get all the press.

Id take Hartnell too, who might come cheaper because he's older and has a bigger contract.
- TheTaoOfSemenko

Yup. I'd rather Hartnell at the (presumably lower) price it would cost to acquire him then Simmonds at his cost.

Ya. Cuz Philly with him last year won soooo much....

Chicago needed to have him....

- Iggysbff

That comment makes zero sense, one player can't do it all but players like Simmonds are exactly what teams need & you can agree or disagree, he's the type the Oilers desparately need.

I think Simmonds is great, but he's a 30 goals scorer like Gagner's a 50 point scorer.
- Morris

Despite that being an accurate description, Simmonds's goal scoring is only one aspect of his game. I actually consider his physical game to be the meat and potatoes, and the goal scoring a bonus. Pound for pound he's one of the toughest, grittiest guys in the league. He's almost impossible to knock over (I reference you here: http://www youtube com/watch?v=zqaz-Frx-Ac), and he doesn't understand what a "shift off" is. He plays responsible defense, and is an awesome team player and locker room presence. On the other hand, the biggest aspect of Gagner's game are the points he puts up, and Gagner's career high in points (49) still only matches Simmonds's career high in points (also 49). Simmonds brings much much more to the table than Gagner, and despite me wearing black and orange glasses, is a more valuable player than Gagner.

4. Oilers acquire Brayden Coburn
Aw yes, this old thing. I still think Ladislav Smid would be the principle player going back to the Flyers. Coburn for Smid + a quality prospect. I can't see Smid + the Oilers 1st pick in 2014. They already dealt their 2nd round pick, and a 1st would be overpayment to a team desperate to shed some salary.

I know certain bassists. Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, Victor Wooten, Flea...but they're kinda the upper echelon. Krist Novecelic seemed just cool with being there.

Hartnell can easily be moved, not sure Edmonton has the pieces to make it happen, though.

If we trade Coburn, it will be in a package in order to get an upgrade of Coburn. We don't need to shed salary that bad that we'll be dumping our #3 dman (who has a quite reasonable cap hit, at that) just because a deal is there.

Richard has also only said 327547234 times now that the Flyers need to shed salary.

Except when we waive Gervais, Bourdon, and LTIR Pronger, we will have almost 5 million in cap space.

How much do you think the asking price would be? Just curious because Philly likely has no desire to deal him.

The problem with EDM is their assets are either worth way too much, or way too little If Hartnell is moved I would hope it's in a package for a top line scoring LWer, otherwise it's not helping the team at all.

It's hard to say because of Hartnell's leadership and locker room factor. And the part where he's a 37 goal scoring power forward. I know it was on a line with a legend (Jagr) and one of the best players to ever wear a Flyers uniform (Giroux), but that part still can't be ignored.

Just tell McT io get off is ass & sign Gagner o a 5 year deal at 5 mil per & give him a imited to trade clause. 10 teams at the tart of ach season he wonèt except a trade to. Gagner is a legitamate #2 C or RW tha plays with heart. Yes heès a little small but he plays bigger than he is.

You really don't think MacT inquired? I bet he talked to every gm about every pf in the game. Its likely a quick conversation. As soon as the asking price is mentioned, conversation comes to a quick end.

and we just gave up Paajarvi and a 2nd for that exact thing, so that won't be happening.

You know I really don't think Edmonton and Philly make good trading partners right now the more I think about it.

I said 20 to 30 goal scorer & he's done it before & was on pace for 30 plus this year had there been an entire season.

The guy is under-valued big-time & because he's not the flashing skill guy that many Oiler fans watch on a daily basis with Gagner, Nuge & Ebs, people forget just how good Simmonds really is.

But again, Philly isn't going to move him unless the offer is very good because they know full well how difficult it is to find players who do it all.

- newmy

Actually, if you did the math he was on pace for 27 goals this last year. There was no season throughout his career in fact he was on pace for 30 goals or more.
