After Darcy's presser I'm not as convinced about either one of Miller/Vanek being dealt but..
1. Oilers deal for Ryan Miller

If they plan on being competitive this year then maybe there is a deal to be had here. I don't expect too much value in return though. Reider is an interesting player and draft pick(s) would be nice too. Either way I'm guessing the sabres need to take a portion of the contract.

2. Oilers deal for Thomas Vanek

Unless they've got some other deal in place for Pietrangelo that involves moving a guy like Hall/Eberle/Yakupov, dealing for Vanek makes no sense. Even so, there is the matter of re signing him and if he does choose to stay I highly doubt he takes a pay cut.

3. Hemsky to the Sabres

Ass backwards of Miller situation. If the Sabres want to compete this year (delusional I know, but still) I could see Hemsky being an option depending on the price tag. Though I feel like if they wanted to do a quick fix they would have done it through FA.

idk. STL and EDM's top 6s are pretty set and EDM n STL goaltending is pretty solid. I don't see STL and EDM as possible destinations for Miller-Vanek

Gagner thinks he's worth $5M when he's basically Bozak but can't win faceoffs to save his life. Hemsky is a salary cap floor pawn in the game of hockey. If a player is useless to the Oilers, he's useless to the other 29 teams as well.

I think the Oil could really use a simmons/hartnall type guy. Some experienced playoff tested pushback and leadership that could fit in the top 6. Someone Hall can look up to and learn from in the short term. Someone who can show them what that extra gear is and how to get to it. Someone like Ferrence upfront. But a guy who is good enough is gonna cost ya, unless you get real lucky with a salary dump.
