Enough of this crap.....there aren't many 40 point 200 hit top pairing d-men in the NHL. I know the popular thing is to rip guys that show the slightest dent in their own armour, but the poop Phaneuf does, ie. carry 2 AHL d-men through last season, and still finish in the top 10 in virtually every d-man category is very underated. Smid is a decent defensive d-men, but I can name 30 better ones off the top of my head, how many d-men can you name that score 40 points and get 200 hits?

Hall is locked up for 6 years. Kessel has 1 year left before he walks because you guys can't get anyone better than Tyler Bozak to center his line. If I'm Nonis, I'm doing anything and everything to bring Joe Thorton there. With him as the setup man, Kessel gets 40+ every year.
- Ihatebrianburke

All I said was Kessel was the closest thing we had. Hall is fricking awesome. Huge fan of his, the tyler vs taylor debate was never a debate in this household. THere are at most 4 players in the NHL I might take over Hall....key word might.

I'd say Kessel and Hall are close, edge goes to Hall simply because I see a possible Art Ross in his future.

t’s difficult to get overly excited about this when Cloutier’s rumors haven’t always materialized in the past. I’m not sure what his batting average would be, but it may be lower than the Mendoza line. In other words, his sources that he claims have information rarely turn out to have much merit to them.

apparently Kessel preferred the leafs getting bozak over any UFA available. Plus the jury is still out on Kadri, he could possibly be a legit #1

Was never as good as was made out to be and never as bad. He fit Quinn's system, but signed that stupid contract at 32 yrs of age, one he couldn't live up to. Plus we eat d-men for breakfast here, something goes wrong, the first thing we do is point at the d-men. Seen it with Larry Murphy and then Beauchemin and a host of others. Phaneuf isn't the greatest, but he's better than most.

Oh, it's possible a deal for Phaneuf to Edmonton could happen. I'll get back to that in a second. But first, let me express my annoyance with all of you. When Watters suggests something might happen, it's cute. When I do, well, I'm just unconnected no-one who makes things up, aren't I? I mentioned a week before Paajarvi got dealt that he was on the block. I mentioned several times David Perron was a target. But do I get any credit? Of course not. As one person so eloquently put it to me, if you make up enough rumors, eventually one will be right. Like throwing a hot dog down a hallway, or something.
- Maxbone

Everybody knew that if any of the kids were getting dealt it was PRV. Thanks for the info captain obvious. You took it one step further and claimed PRV wasn't a Mac-T guy, which is pretty much just your usual making poop up.

No clouts. Just no. Stupid deal all round i'm a fan of phenuf but I will NOT give up ladislav smid for him as part of a deal. Quit hating on the guy find someone else for you trade talks. Smid just signed a 4 year contract there is no NTC but do you think smid would have signed that had he expected to be dealt. Likly enough theres a one year peroid where smid is safe, meaning until the trade deadline of 2014 then maybe you can use his name again. Belov is an inprovent asset we do not know what we'll get from him so until we know more about him we keep all the D we have. N shultz leaves after the year and klefbom takes his place there is no need to make any moves on the back end at this time. You go into the season with this
ference j shultz
smid petry
n shultz belov potter
Then at the end of next year you have choices to make petry, j shultz are both RFA's n shultz belov potter are all UFA's. Have a peek at garths list of UFA's for the summer of 2014 many will probably not be on the market but that is a very deep market and the oilers would be able to get at least one very good player out of it to off set losing n shultz For the hell of it i'll say the oilers sign phenuf as a UFA next year though i have no idea about that he's just a name so then you look like this

Phenuf j shultz
smid petry
klefbom ference
Looking at it that way you get a good player without giving up a good player. Just saying right now aside from moving hemsky the oilers don't need to do anything. Just my opinion though

Well thats pretty relieving cause I don't want Gagner at all. Dion would be a great add and be a good top pairing D. Only problem with the situation is that would leave Toronto with no proven top 2 D men. So unless Nonis lands a big fish, that trade can't happen.

So your ready to deal us Darnell Nurse and a first? Or maybe Taylor Hall and a second for Phaneuf? He isn't coming free, so good luck trying to send us nothing back, in return.
- PrinceLH

Please for Dion? They should trade him for whatever they can right now before they either let him walk for free or give him a raise.

People may be a little more accepting of ''wilbur'' due to the fact that he has actually worked in the league. That may give someone a bit more clout or tolerance from others when it comes to things like this. I don't think you have any real credentials other than writing a blog on a site known for it's propensity for making things up to get hits for the site. so yeah don't be so butthurt just because you aren't getting the same credit as ACTUAL HOCKEY PEOPLE.. good luck with the blog..

See, here's the thing that kills me.....

"Hey man, Phaneuf sucks, he's worth crap"
"6.5M is too much salary etc. etc."

Yet, at the same time he gets a raise after this season? Which is it? Does he deserve a raise? or is he overpaid? make up your mind.

We are moving up in the standings, going forward. Why would we rip this team apart, now that we've earned an identity. If your going to trade for one of our key assets, don't expect us to take your overvalued salary cap sh!t. I'm not a huge Phaneuf fan, but he has value and giving a couple of players on the down side of their careers for him, with high cap hits, is ludicrous.

He is overpaid and he will get a raise next year somewhere, I just hope its not in Philly. He isn't taking a haircut next year. He isn't worth it. I never said he deserves a raise, quite the opposite.

This isn't a trick question, how many d-men in the NHL put up the numbers he has? How much are they paid?

They'll give him until the New Year to see how he's performing. He could actually accept an extension for the same money and both sides save face. Do I like his cap hit? Nope! I don't like any players cap hit and due to his douche attitude, I don't like his especially. Now if that was Lupul or any other fan favourite, we'd accept it. It's about his personality and why many in the Leafs Nation would like to see him out of here.

Smid is a 4 - 5 guy and we're giving up a 1 - 2. Why do we need another Mark Fraser? We'd take Smid, for a 3rd, for bottom pair service.

How do you figure? Dion's only a year older than, but somehow was on a 50 point pace playing some of the toughest minutes in the NHL, getting the most defensive zone starts by an NHL d-man.......Smid's steady, but 4 points in 48 gp I'd expect from a goon, not a defensive d-man, Smid hits but at 20 minutes ATOI on a non-playoff time, pales in comparision to 25 minutes plus by a guy on a playoff team.

You also broke that Hemsky is going to be traded.
You predicted it 4 years ago and every trade deadline and summer.
I give you credit sounds like you are right.

You don't demand respect you earn it.

You are a guy that loves the Oilers and loves talking Oilers.
Just leave it as what it is
