We have to abandon the Salary Cap. It's the only way for the NHL to retain it's position as the premier hockey league of the world. This trend will continue until there is no talent difference between NHL and KHL.

Should just have the NHL champions face the khl champions for champions of the earth

If you take the salary cap away the nhl will e like the mlb or NBA where there is only 5 teams that realistically have a chance to win it all, really only one team in the NBA.

Malkin is staying put , he likes Pitt and so do his parents. He gets to go for summers so he won't get homesick. He has one Stanley cup and a hunger for more. I can't see him going anywhere.

It would not be unrealistic to think a KHL team would offer him double his salary tax free to go play at home.

I love this answer. It is so true. That is what makes hockey so great, the parity. Take away the parity of the NHL, it would take away so much magic from the game. Every year its the same 5 teams in the NBA; Heat, Lakers, Celtics, Thunder, Spurs. With an occasional 1 or 2 teams falling out and coming in. BORING. sucks because I'm a magic fan too. I love the salary cap due to that reason. NFL and NHL best sports due to the parity amongst the league.

But just because you have salary cap doesn't mean you can use it all. Many teams can't spend to the full amount of the cap because they simply don't have/make money.

Also people hate how all the east coast teams get mentioned for free angents and trades, guess where most of the money is. Teams like the flyers, penguins, Canadiens, leafs, bruins, and the rangers would have so much money to spend and they would spend it. They already overpay for player like clarkson and drove the price waaaay up on Doan last year it would be terrible for the nhl.

Ok now imagine them spending what they do now while the teams with the money spend whatever they want.

Maybe they can't spend to the cap but at least it helps keep in check a little , so the rich teams can't keep spending.

But what about the Pirates?

I support the cap though, I think it tries to create a level playing field the best they can. There will always be small market clubs that struggle. Like NJ not being able to pay their players.

Of course. I love having the salary cap. But imagine if every team had the finances to spend up to the cap limit, it would be even more wide open than it is now. Don't forget that winning cities also have advantages too. A star player in free agency is more likely to choose a team with a winning history rather than a team who has fell short year after year after year after year. Which is what I think happened to the blues losing out on Weiss

Which is why we need to have some game between the khl and NHL. NHL all stars vs. khl all stars?

There is no perfect answer for trying to keep all teams equal , but I think the NHL does as good as any sports league.

The NHL does do probably one of the best jobs in keeping all teams competitive. 2 years ago weren't the panthers in close to last place, then the year after that they won their division. They also took the would-be eastern conference champs team to a close 7 games. It just shows how quickly teams can get better in this league. And as we saw with the devils, unfortunately how quickly they can lose all of their talent

Should you wait until the Pirates at least end the season over .500? It would be thefirst time in like 20 years or so.

The Pirates have been about the worst team in baseball for the last 30-40 years. It is crazy how well they are playing this year. Best team in baseball right now correct? or one of the top ones. Look at the Rays, one of the smallest payrolls but each year they make the postseason somehow. Especially the last few years. Teams like the Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox, Rangers, Angels etc. have a huge advantage over teams such as Rays, Pirates, Astros, Royals, Rockies. Bigger markets draw bigger attendances/free agents which boost sales, which in turn boosts revenue, which boosts overall funds.
