So it looks like Malkin is no longer the best player wearing 71, as that is the number Clarkson will wear. Also the revers of Wendel Clark's number, so it seems like he's really living his childhood dream. Wonder if that dream ended with him getting bought out. - rmdevil313

Adam Larsson because he's so bad that we buy him out of his ELC that expires next summer. |

Agree to a point, Yotes defense was probably better then the Devils right now and their goalie (Smith) was playing on an elite level. Not sure if Marty can do that at this stage of his career and I don't think Cory is going to be #1 right now....BTW I would of loved to get Vermette, he's one of my favorite players - Gambi99
Yotes defense is definitely better. But the goaltending is a wash. Smith isn't that good and a Marty/Cory tandem is better then Smith imo. |

Yeah i hear you. so you'd say you guys need better D?
I was on the oiler's page and a couple guys were suggesting Hemsky for Bernier and a 3rd or 4th round pick. To me sounded like an overpayment for you guys. |

Our D is a bit underwhelming when you look at the names, but they get the job done. We led the league in shots against last season. Scoring is our first, second, and third needs. If we can upgrade our D, why not. But we shouldn't be giving up much when a winger is much more needed. |

Seriously feel like if Lou wanted Hemsky (a pending UFA with a terrible contract and a tendency to play a soft, one-way game) he could get him for a 3rd. |

Well we do need to upgrade our defense and not because of their "defense" but the offense that comes from them...or should I say NOT comes from them |

Good point. If there was even a real threat from our D when the forwards work the puck around and cycle it would make a world of difference. They would open up more space and make the wingers of opposing teams be more honest and actually respect them. No one is scared of Fayne, Sal, Volch, Or hell any of them to be honest. The only one who makes good offensive plays is Larsson cause he seems to be the best at finding sticks and just well not getting it blocked but he's got ways to go before he's really a true offensive threat. |

So, let's sign a guy that has left twice for the KHL? - Devils9503
This.
Enough with the PC "let's dodge xenophobia & act like all Russians are swell guys" BS, the fact is Zherdev has already bailed on the NHL and has questionable character.
Enough is enough.
No thanks.
They get the stigma they have for a reason, no one's fault but their own.
Brunner would be a good fit. Probably come overpaid, but who doesn't come overpaid to NJ? |

And Hemsky will be nice for about 10 games until he ruptures his vagina again, no thanks to Hemsky as well.
Especially if it involves giving up any assets whatsoever, which it will since it's via trade. At least with Brunner they're not losing assets from an already underwhelming farm system. |

cool thing about brunner, i saw him while he played for zug in switzerland, since my parents live in zug and went over there and went to 2-3 games on vacation, didnt know he would be in the NHL let alone possibly signing with the devils
also went to a game about a week or 2 after zetterburg left to go back to NA during lockout |

I know we have depth in defense, in the farm.. But I like it. We could be like Chicago with the depth they has in their 2010 cup, this year too. Santini, Severson, Gelinas, Merrill, Larsson, Urbom. What a group! |

Don't forget about Reece Scarlett..... He fell to us in the 6th round after playing in the top prospect game in 2011 because of size (6' under 170lbs) and he had a horrible season that year before the draft ( 72 games 6 goals and 18 assists and was -37 ) but his last two years he has really improved (past year....67 games he had 9 goals and 40 assists 49 points and was a +14) he does have some good upside. |

On a neutral team Marty and Cory are better, but any goalie that plays for Tippett will over achieve |
