Buffalo doesn't want hemsky and they wont trade for him. Stafford a good fit for oilers but idk what a deal would be...buffalo has 5 second rounders in the next 2 years already (3 in 2014) and i believe you traded q second rounder in the perron deal? Is stafford+2014 second rounder worth your 1st rounder? Probably late teens the first rounder would be. - Djtyczy
Why do you insist on Stafford to the Oilers...?
He's not even remotely what the oil need. Please stop. |

A. Trevor Linden (# retired)
B. Markus naslund (# retired)
C. Ryan Smyth
94 will be in the rafters someday. The value of the player to the franchise/city and his contribution to Canadian Hockey. Doug Weight had better number and a stanley cup ring, but I feel doesn't resonate with the fans as much as Smyth does. Smyth was the face of the franchise for the 90's and will (fairly or unfairly) be held under closer scrutiny because of our past success from 83 to 90.
Who else goes up before him? Ranford? Huddy? Lowe? (Lowe has the best chance with his '6 stanley cup rings', but not while Hall is here and K-lo is still active.) - unkydav
I don't understand what 2 retired Canuck #s have to do with anything the Oilers do. |

Kessel>any Oiler forward. - Flats
kessel's great offensive prowess does cover his piss-poor job in his own end, but he ain't better than Hall |

3RW. Decent posession player. Don't watch enough BUF games to know what his "effort level" is like, seems to be important around here |

Exactly, the Oilers should maintain their high standards when it comes to hanging jerseys. Vancouver has no HOF'ers so they just hang the jersey of who was most popular during an era. So glad we have a rich history to reflect on, even if the present day is the sh1ts. |

A quiz for you clouts. Three players, two of which have had their numbers retired:
A. 1382 games 375g 492a 867p. 1 Wjc gold 1 wc silver
B. 1117 games. 395g 474a 869p. 1 wc silver 2 wc bronzes
C. 1198 games 376g 443a 819p. 1wjc gold 2 wc gold. 1 wc silver. 1 Olympic gold. 1 Spengler cup gold
Which ones? - unkydav
all pretty close. Spengler cup means nothing, Cam barker won that this year.
maybe B and C? |

Kessel: 26yo, 48gp/20g/32a/52p -3 18pims
Hall: 20yo, 45gp/16g/34a/50p +5 33pims
Taylor is 6 years younger, and easily has more room to improve at this point.
I take Hall all day long... ALL DAY!! - steveb12344
Also Hall plays toughest competition in EDM among forwards. Kessel played like 6th in TO |

I don't understand what 2 retired Canuck #s have to do with anything the Oilers do. - Marshalle
I agree, not to take a shot at Canucks fans but they're arguably the best two players they had, so they kind of had to no? After 40 years they have to put something up there in the rafters (not intentionally taking a poke at no cups Canucks fans relax... Just kind of happened that way).
Back to the smyth point, back in 2007 before the trade I would have said yes retire his jersey, now I don't know. I love smytty but his play of late kinda sours me on it. I like having a jersey retirement reserved for truly special players. I mean look at Montreal or Boston, They don't just retire anyone's jersey. Plus lets be serious, does anyone else wear 94 in the league, what at chances anyone else would wear it for the oilers?
What's everyone else think? |

Smyth just isn't near the level of the other names retired in EDM. He'll always be 94 in my mind, but you can't put smyth next to gretz n mess.
VAN didn't have a dynasty like EDM's in the 80s. Their standards have to be different. I wonder if the sedins #s'll be retired
EDIT: and that's no shot at VAN |

But Stafford, someone who has outpointed Hemsky by 20% over the last 3 seasons, is only work a 3rd? He is younger, bigger and has better numbers. |

(frank), i just wanna make the playoffs. I'm a optimist, so I'm going 7-8th. We have improved the roster with lots of time to tweak still.
How bout the flames? - HouseArrest187
It's too easy to say last place. We won't be near the playoffs, but I have some optimism about Hartley. Last in the division seems likely, but I don't think we will be last in the west. At the same time, it all depends on our goalies. |
