I think the fact of the matter is that him saying "Kessel > any Oilers forward" is admitting defeat, because the lack of specificity implies that there are a couple Oilers forwards that are in the running. Even if Kessel were better, I'd rather have 4 forwards that are "almost" as good as Kessel and better than any other TO forward. - Morris
Comparing the top-6 forwards on each team...
Hall, RNH, Eberle, Yak, Gagner, Perron(?) to Kessel, Bozak, Lupul, Kadri, JVR, Clarkson,
It is pretty clear that upside, as a group, favours Edmonton, given that Lupul and Clarkson are not likely to improve and Kessel is almost at his peak whereas 4 of the Oilers are very young.
As of right now though, I would take T.O.'s group.
Admittedly, I am a Leafs fan, so I am biased. I do think though that it would be tough to objectively say the Oilers group is better "now"... given the most recent stats at our disposal.

Lets compare Eberles first 3 seasons to Kessels 3rd, 4th, and 5th seasons. Makes sense. - mochoson
Come on Mochoson. That is a trap mate. Matt Moulson should make you his agent.

I wasn't so much speaking to which group was actually better, but moreso to his attitude that Kessel could reasonably be compared to each oiler forward (or at least Hall, Nuge, Eberle, Yakupov/Perron). I like the TO forward group, but generally speaking I'd rather have the better forward group (as he seemed to imply) then the best forward out of either group. |

Maybe I'm biased too but I think if you polled all hockey fans excluding Leaf and Oiler fans on who's top 6 you'd prefer.... The Oilers would run away with it.

Matt Moulson should indeed make me his agent, he would have had a Natty Ice endorsement commercial a year and a half ago if I had any say in the matter. |

What you would RATHER have is a coach that knows how to get your young to play and be professionals.
Oh yeah, you got that now
I think we know, within 2 years, just how good your kids are going to end up being.
Edmonton makes the playoffs this year.

Really fun. If you like action and amazing effects with excellent CGI and amazing sets...this is the movie for you. It still amazes me when I see something like this and District 9 with lower-end budgets (obviously District 9 is a lot more impressive) then massive 300 mil movies with poop CGI and crap production values. Good for a laugh and a wank.
One bad part...can be hard to hear what they are saying when the massive bass is blaring.
Oh and the Asian chick is hot...but not..HOT |

Yeah I hope so. There's still a lot of pieces missing, but it's not like every roster that makes the playoffs is stacked. That being said if you guys want to give us Kulemin and Gunnarson for nothing I'm sure the Oilers would find places for them |

They are different groups.
Edmonton players avg .08 ppg more
Toronto forwards avg. 4.5 years older, 1.5 inches taller and about 10 lbs heavier.
Yes, most people would choose Edmonton's group. I think that is because half of them are 1st overall picks. The upside is huge. I admitted that.
If I am entering the playoffs right now, I want Toronto's group because of size and experience, even if the scoring prowess is not as great.
If I am building towards a championship team... I take my chances with Edmonton's group instead.

exactly... there is no flawless team out there. Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles are the closest it seems.
Eakins is gonna make a BIG difference. |

That's the hope. I think they're now at the point where they need a coach that will kick their asses when it's needed. They're past that point. I realized it when Hall took a run at Clutterbuck and got a suspension. "Yeah, not really a shy little geek anymore." By all accounts, Eakins is that guy. |

All I'm gonna say about Penner is that if we can sign him for one year then that'd be ok. It'd be interesting how he'd do with Eakins as the coach. He might come around and really surprise people. He did really well as an oiler and it seems as though when we traded him to LA he lost his game.
Now, Hemsky. I think it's most likely that NJ would be the team who's willing to trade for him. Or Florida. What would an offer be if you were to trade him to the devils? |

The offer would be,
"Hey we've got Hemsky. What would you be willing to give us?"
"Well we could.."
"Great! I'll fax the papers over."
"But you haven't even..."
