Dude. You must have gotten laid this morning or something. You're all mellow and poop. And talking completely rationally. You even have the Laffs fans digging your poop today... - Iggysbff
I always get laid as long as Mrs.Tao is sleeping deeply enough.
As far as the rational thing, it just depends on how much I feel like hating humanity on a given day. No one has pissed me off today, so we're all good. |

Id rather pursue Coburn or even Mezsaros. Or a case of bird flu. (frank) Gilbert. (frank) him in his stupid ass. - TheTaoOfSemenko
Meszaros is trash. Coburn is interesting, but Gilbert costs nothing but money. |

I wish hockey had a "wins above replacement" stat like baseball. I dunno how many Penner or Gibby would get us, but you do have a point that it may be better to get marginal upgrades while we can then stand pat and complain that we can't make major upgrades.
Penner wouldn't be my choice because he strikes me as a goof, but Gilbert I'd explore in a depth role. That would probably mean sending Larsen to the AHL for the year though, since he'd have to clear waivers on the way back up. - Morris
I think there is. Corey pronman tweeted out a link to something like it over a year ago. Eberle was worth like 3-4 wins last year or something. Crosby is worth like 7-8 wins a season |

More like we remember how well he's played with an injured everything in the last 5 years. I think Hemmer still has some gas in the tank but it's time to move on. - TheTaoOfSemenko
I'm hoping we can game NJ while they're in a vulnerable state. In fact given they're losing their 1st this year packaging Hemmer + a pick/prospect might get us something interesting. Ryan Carter, Steve Bernier, these could be interesting assets. |

Meszaros and Coburn are top 4 guys in Edm. Or in Philly for that matter, Meszaros when healthy of course. Gilbert is the trash here. |

Meszaros was a 5 behind Gustafson in PHI. Not top 4 in EDM. |

Tom Awad of Hockeyprospectus defined GVT (goals versus threshold)
GVT (Individual)
Goals Versus Threshold. Developed by Tom Awad
of Hockey Prospectus, GVT measures a player's
worth in comparison to a typical fringe NHL player.
GVT has two major advantages over most metrics: it's
measured in goals, which are easily equated to wins,
and it is capable of comparing players across multiple
positions and multiple eras. GVT is the summation of
OGVT, GGVT, DGVT, and SGVT.
OGVT
Offensive Goals Versus Threshold is the portion of
GVT measuring a player's ability to generate goals.
OGVT measures a player's contribution to goal creation.
DGVT
Defensive Goals Versus Threshold. This stat measures
a player's worth, in goals, at shot suppression.
SGVT
Shootout Goals Versus Threshold is a measure of
a skater's or goaltender's value in the shootout. It is
based on the player's ability to score or prevent goals
in the shootout versus a league average player in the
same situation.
For the season they collected (2010-2011), Penner was a +4.6 and Jones a +3.5. Nick Schultz was +4.7 and Tom Gilbert +4.5. This is in goals, not wins mind you. |

He played 11 games last year, when healthy he was a top 4 in Philly. And would be in Edm.

5th most minutes. If he was top 4, PHI wouldn't want to dump his salary. While +- is near irrelevant, it stands out if he's -9 in 11GP.
Last 2 seasons he hasn't played top 4 minutes |

you're right. I don't have 14 favourite teams and watch all of their games like mochoson. He can make outlandish statements about EDM, can't go both ways I see |

Sorry for being a fan of the sport an enjoying watching the game instead of coming on the Internet and talking about it.
Anyone reading this should point out when I'm being "outlandish" from now on. Cause to my knowledge, I either state facts or my opinion, which I always label as such when doing so. |

You work for the Flyers? We're rushing to dump him? Says who? Cause all Paul Holmgrem has said regarding our blue-line so far is he expects Coburn, Grossman, and Mez to all recover from injury.
The media and only the media have assumed a dman would go to make cap room, no one else. Mez does have a 4m cap hit and we are loaded with dmen, doesn't mean we're trading him. He was our best dmen alongside Timonen prior to the absolutely insane bout of injuries he's endured the past two years.
But go on, tell me more about how he's not a top 4 dman with stats you looked up. |
