I don't like the contract. and Clarkson's is just as bad. So Clowe has one half bad season and know it's "he sucks?" compare their stats bro. I watched Clarkson every single game...the kid has no balance whatsoever. all he does it the clarkaround and stares when the whistle blows.
- ILWT3

I didn't say Clarkson's wasn't bad as well, but at least he's producing.

It was pretty telling when I went to the ranger forums to read a thread called "clowe, resign or not?"

will try to find the link, but prior to the ufa period it was interesting to read how many ranger fans saw clowe as slow and ineffective, called him a third liner and didn't want him back unless it was a 1 year deal around 2.5

Neither player deserved the contracts they were able to get, but Clowe's has massive risk attached to it with the concussions and the way he played last year. San Jose ditched Murray when it was apparent he had slowed way down and they did the same thing with Clowe.

Parise was leaving either way.
- mrhattrick27

In 2010 when the Devils were fully focused on signing Kovy, they could have, and probably would have been focusing on extending Zach (who was an RFA the following year). At the time Langenbrunner (his good friend) was still on the team, Zach was a real focal point of the future, etc.

Last summer I truly believe Zach was torn about signing in NJ or Minny, ultimately he chose Minny. I think the way Langenbrunner was pushed out and how the team had really refocused everything on Kovy was sour with him.

Obviously it's by no means 100% we would still have Parise if we never signed Kovy, but I personally am of the opinion we would, and I know there are others who agree with me.

Clowe is worth more than $2 million a year. Does he have his limitations? No doubt. He's getting long in the tooth, he's slow, and he could find the back of the net at all this year. But, he's a big tough guy, he can bang on the forecheck, and create room for his linemates. Not to mention, he's a first rate human being, so there will also be the intangible effect of some of the younger players in the room learning to be a pro from the guy.

They paid him way too much, and for a contender with cap space issues, the contract isn't a good one. But, I don't think the Devils are going to have cap issues and the near future, and he isn't a bad guy to have around a building club.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. I like Clowe on the team, just don't like his contract. And now that our big investment just ran away to Russia, we have enough cap space that it's not really an issue, at least right now.

I have seen a good deal of Merrill and Boucher, and I think they are both B + level prospects. Boucher can obviously score, but he is not the best skater and is the consummate cherry picker right now. He has a sick shot release, but the question at the pro level will be whether he is a good enough skater to find the shots he was finding in the OHL. To be honest, he reminds a little of Christian Thomas, the prospects the Rangers just traded to the Habs -- great scorer on the OHL level, but may not have all of the tools to take the next step.

Merrill is an interesting prospects. Good measurables, but real maturity issues in the past. If he has gotten through them, think he can be a really solid second pair guy. Good skater, good shot, good passer, but maybe not great at anything. Just solid.

Can't speak to the other two.

And Clowe's a pile of poop right? We all know the contract (frank)ing sucks we talked about that the first day. But to sit here and blast Clowe as useless and all this other poop is ridiculous. When healthy he can help any team. Overpaid yeah tell us something we don't know...

Yeah I'm sure all the top UFA's are going to be fighting over each other to be the first one to sign with a broke franchise lead by Michael Ryder I love it all the years that us Islander fans had to put up with you trolls and now the Isles are on the rise and the devils are broke and sputtering. At least you'll have a top 5 pick next year... Oh wait
- Vukota

you're pathetic. Idk the history of the Islanders, but the Devils have done nothing to warrant whatever negative future you assume they'll have. Most teams just suck because they suck and can't build, manage, and coach a Cup winning team- see the Rangers. The Islanders may have been in the same boat. From what I remember, they made a handful of stupid signings and were mediocre year after year. Then Dipietro (which somehow doesn't circumvent the cap). Laugh all you want.

ZACH LEFT BECAUSE OF HIS WOMAN!!

understandable move. move back home, play with Koivu and a team with some good prospects. Minny isn't horrible. They got Suter. He did what was best in his eyes.

I don't know what your problem is but you should find something better to do with your time. A lot of Devils fans on here were rooting pretty hard for the Islanders in the playoffs. Coming in here and being a complete @ss about everything isn't going to do anyone any favors.
- Todd.Cordell

It an inferiority complex. Considering all that we've accomplished since the last time the Isles won a playoff series, I guess it really built up for some people.

Clutterbuck is better. Hes younger, less injury prone and actually scored goals last year.
