so the 3 jerseys i own are useless
parise, clarkson and kovalchuk - shvingter88
I got parise and Kovy Historically every jersey i get the guy seems to leave shortly after. Stevens...retired shortly after i got it and Nieds left a year after i got that one. But these two aren't worthless at least |

from the quote I read from clowe, I believe he said a number of teams offered him a 1 year deal with a team option, so I was shocked to see he got a 5 year deal and at 4.8 per. I really dislike the risk attached to that with the concussions and that he took such a dramatic tailspin last year in SJ, and was marginally better in NY.
I dislike almost all of these ufa contracts primarily because we burnt a half season in the lockout and came back to the same garbage in the summer.
Don't take my criticism of Lou as bashing the Devils, you guys have had a hell of a run and may still pull something out, but Kovy really screwed your franchise hard when he ran.
Even if you do rebuild after this season or next, you still have more on your roster and on the farm than the Isles did at the beginning of their rebuild. That may mercifully shorten the time it takes. - Isles_since_6
you're the furthest thing from a troll.
also i agree, that lockout did more damage than it fixed issues. |

I don't think options exist in the NHL.
Also, the contracts are not the reason for the lockout. These number you see the UFAs getting is not what they ultimately get paid. The only thing that effects the players pay is revenue. The players get 50% of revenues. So basically clowe makes however much 4.8 million is compared to the total money the players receive based on the sum of their contracts. This is what escrow is for. If the players salaries are over 50% of revenues, then they pay escrow payments to the league. If the players share is less than 50%, they receive payments. The problem was that revenues grew much quicker than the league expected after the first lockout, but very unevenly. the 57-43 split in favor of the players was causing a lot of teams to fall behind and lose money. - rmdevil313
I get the revenue split to cut the players share, what pissed me off was seeing the contracts being bought out for players teams deemed it wasn't worth keeping, then on a weak ufa market they handed out almost the same if not worse contracts (in some instances)
Foolish for thinking the owners would have told GM's to get their payroll structure in order and stop throwing their money away, but I really thought this time around there may be some restraint.
I get ufa's get more money because they've played long enough to get there, but with rfa's commanded more money to be locked up for some ufa years and those contracts being handed out, at some point teams are going to run out of money and the NHLPA should really look at the guys making the league minimum because the team spent all their cash on 4-5 guys and see the majority of their membership is getting screwed.

Teams with lots of money will never get their payroll in order. Their team will make thin 10s of millions and because of the big fanbases, they are under lots of pressure. Any available cap space will be met with questions if its not used, especially if the team doesn't do very well. |

what a epic 2 days for devils fans on this site. - Jurco_28
it's been nauseating. I just want Lou to make his moves fast so we can have some sense of what we're really getting into come september.
Wouldn't it be a trip if we're in playoff position, trade spare parts and picks for Vanek and a 2nd round pick.. then have a big offseason ordeal, eventually resign Vanek for 10 years 7mil hit. ..
THEN HE LEAVES FOR FREAKING RUSSIA AFTER 2 SEASONS, INCLUDING A CUP FINAL APPEARANCE!!
but it would be too funny if we traded for Vanek near the deadline. Not as dominant as Kovy, but skilled with decent size. |
