They must have kicked him out early this year.

"New Jersey traded Johnny Oduya, Patrice Cormier, Niclas Bergfors, a 1st round pick and 2nd round pick to acquire Kovalchuk from Atlanta. Then they circumvented the cap to try and meet his contract demands and will forfeit their 1st round pick next season because of it."

I'm not sure I agree with this, can you present the evidence that supports this statement or are you just guessing because that's what you've heard?

You know, in life, things change. For everyone! The Devils will be fine in the long run, they made some errors offering him the contract they did. Regardless of whose idea it was. Lou has handed out some pretty bad contracts as of late, when the salary cap came in he's done a strange job of managing the team in it.

I imagine he was articulating the ruling as it was ruled by the NHL.

I'm no Devils fan, but that was a crap ruling. The NHL just made up a rule on the spot.

I have no idea. I just that it was funny that Barry said he actually able to have a reasonable conversation with Ranger fans instead of Islander fans. By th nature of the two fan bases agreeing on anything is almost impossible.

Just a best guess on my part, but I think Gary will give the Devils their pick back.

Barry has always been one of the most level headed posters on this site. He has never had a problem, that I remember, on the Rangers blog, at least among the regulars. I find it funny how Mick has managed to get under Barry's skin, because I don't think I have ever seen him mad.

Jagr 1 year deal? It would make good sense. He had a good season last year. It would enable us to transition to next year's powerful group of FAs with more offense this season.
- BarryB1124

Stop with this Jagr nonsense! He's too old and too slow. Did you watch the playoffs - he was TERRIBLE!

Yeah I'm sure all the top UFA's are going to be fighting over each other to be the first one to sign with a broke franchise lead by Michael Ryder I love it all the years that us Islander fans had to put up with you trolls and now the Isles are on the rise and the devils are broke and sputtering. At least you'll have a top 5 pick next year... Oh wait
- Vukota

Yeah, you know all about top 5 picks being the cellar dwellars that you are since the 80's

have to give up 1st rd pick next year when its likely to be a top 10 or top 5 pick. devils are in deep trouble. I believe all gms are taking note to never give any Russians that kinda contract again.

He also scored more goals than anyone on our team last year. We're not exactly swimming in options here right? We HAVE to make the playoffs first. It's a must. If not Jagr what exactly would you propose?

"Sign this UFA, sign that UFA, wait for next year and its a good crop of free agents to sign this guy and that guy. Then maybe we won't suck"... Cmon guys. You sound like the Rangers in early 2000s.... and if the Devils go down that road they will a) stay sucking for a loooong time and b) then you will REALLY hear it from Rangers fans like myself because of the torment I received for those years of spending money trying to tread water.

Just blow it up. Your team has nothing right now, and that's actually ok. Re-build entirely. And come back in 5 years. Nothing wrong with that.

I think this Kovi thing is bad for the NHL, so I am not happy about overall. It is going to hurt Russian players and it legitimizes the KHL a bit more which encourages players to defect. I want this league to have all the top players in the world. Not just the North American ones. Hopefully this doesn't have an impact..

.....And I am not going to troll people here. But I am on facebook, cause if anyone from NJ knows, people I never knew even knew what a puck would come out of the wood work when the devils are good with "like O.M.G the devils are so good." For those fans and those fans only, this makes me smile. End Rant.

Assuming JVB was the primary person responsible for the Kovy signing, I doubt seriously the Devils are throwing that type of money at one individual again...unless that person or those people have a seriously proven track record. There's a few FAs like that next year who aren't that old. Meaning I wouldn't throw the money at a Bobby Holik or Scott Gomez type but I would for Phil Kessel. Not that we're getting Kessel I am just giving an example. I'd think that would be the Devils' line of thinking too.

I think it's important to try to be competitive soon. Locking up Schneider is a priority and we do have a number of good defense prospects coming with Larsson hopefully leading the way. I think we still have the Devils' core philosophy in place of building with D and goaltending, so getting offensive depth is just an additional piece rather than THE piece, if that makes sense.

It wouldn't be my first choice either...if we had any other choice. Brunner might be ok but we have no idea exactly what he can bring either, plus he has the rep of being soft. We need something here.

In defense of leafs and islander fans from earlier. The last time our teams were any good, twitter and social media hadnt been invented yet. We have catching up to do.
