A side note to the Devils saga...

People were talking about Connor McDavid in the last blog, he will not be eligible for the draft until 2015, so the Devils won't be missing out on him.

Is there a clear cut "next one" in the 2014 class?

Aaron Ekblad (defense). One of only 3 players (Tavares, McDavid the others) to be offered special exemption status to play in the CHL one year early.

I just want to know how many disallowed goals he will have this season

Kunitz seems to be a streaky goal scorer. If he gets on a couple good hot streaks, he could hit 30. Having the year he did might get him shooting more too.

He certainly could have another career season in 2013-2014. I would liken the data I presented to that of a weather forecast. You take the variables and information and make the best prediction you can. As you know, the weather men get it wrong sometimes.

Sam Reinhart is the other potential #1 pick.

Watch out for Sam Reinhart out of the WHL.

Al MacInnis's son Ryan will be a 1st rounder next year. Would love to see the Pens draft him if we have a 1st next year and he falls to the 2nd half of the 1st round. Big winger (6'3" at 17) with hockey bloodlines, plus i was always a fan of MacInnis.

Personally, I'd like to see Bennett play with Sid and dupes, and Kunitz with Malkin and Neal. Malkin and Neal need that speedy forechecker.

They better blow this team up this year. Trade every old player for prospects and picks. Damn, I'd even trade Clowe if I could move that contract.

Do you think he'll be comfortable playing second-fiddle his whole career? I'm not saying he will or won't, but he'll never be the #1 center assuming Crosby is healthy.
- jmatchett383

He wouldn't have signed the extension if he was unhappy playing second fiddle at this juncture. It's not rocket science to figure it out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them use their 7th rounder on him.

So basically, the second line.
- jmatchett383

I guess if you consider Dupuis better than Neal.

Or Bennett and bad player

I always thought Bennett would fit well with Geno and Neal because they are shooters and he is pretty creative. He is aggresive on the forecheck and pretty physical player. Most importantly he is smart and responsible defensively. He will get the puck and distribute it to them.

Never said either. But there is a top line in Pittsburgh and there is a second line. It's a very good second line. But it's a second line.

Bruins resigned Bergeron for an awesome deal. He most likely took a hometown discount, but at 6.5 mil/year, that's a great deal. Could have easily gotten 8+ on the open market.

In Pittsburgh it's a 2nd line. In Philly, NJ, NY, and 15 other cities its a 1st line

One thing that always impressed me about Kunitz is his ability to use his hips to deliver a check. He is not exceptionally big yet he delivers his checks with authority. He does not shy away from the physical stuff at all.

How much of that is because the line is great and how much of that is because Malkin is a top 5 player in the world?

Interesting lineup from the perspective I have very little idea who any of these forwards are at all!
