That first Oilers draft has to be the best draft class ever in any sport.. if there's a better one, I demand to see it.
- Doc_Sarcasm

Lowe/Messier/Anderson is excellent, but since you mention any sport:

1974 Pittsburgh Steelers:

1.21. Lynn Swann (HOF)
2.46. Jack Lambert (HOF)
4.82. John Stallworth (HOF)
4.100. Jimmy Allen
5.125. Mike Webster (HOF)

I have to think 4 Hall of Famers out of the first 5 picks has to trump even Lowe/Messier/Anderson. (Since Gretzky wasn't technically a draft pick that year.)

Flyers in '03?
- GirouxForTheShow

Carter, Richards, Colin Fraser and Alexandre Picard

That's not even the Flyers' best draft year.

1972: Barber, Bladon, Jimmy Watson and Al MacAdam

1979: Propp, Lindbergh, Lindsay Carson, Thomas Eriksson

1983: Zezel, Tocchet, Derrick Smith, Pelle Eklund

I thought those guys were in two different draft classes. Thats really impressive.

And yes, as for Gretzky.. the Oilers got him from the Indianapolis Racers as they were going bankrupt.

and is it even the best for a team in 03?

anaheim: getzlaf, perry, drew miller, sob
chicago: seabrook, crawford, lasse, byfuglien
nashville: suter, klein, weber
san jose: michalek, bernier, carle, pavelski

not saying they're all definitely better, but i think it's at least debatable

You can go all the way to the 9th round in that 03 draft, and still find solid NHL players.

The lockout a year after that draft I think only helped these young players step right into the NHL. The league was heading into a new direction of speed and youth. These guys were right on time.

Quick polls for you guys... We do a lot of "best Flyers moments" But what about Funniest Flyers moments.

My top 3 are:

1. Lavi punching Lieno in the head.

2. Brashear going to the box and saying "f XXX it" and you can hear it on the mic and Jim Jackson just saying.. "sorry folks".

3. A linesman mic getting pick up by the broadcast team saying "Quit screwing around in your own end."
