Why would Bryz do that. He would leave MILLIONS on the table.
- youarewrong

Yeah, but that's JUST what happened in New Jersey. 77 million... he walked away from twice what Bryzgalof would have to. Why did he do it?

Usually if its a really good fight or a good card I will order it, If its a moderate card I'll go to the bar. But really, after food and drink the bar bill is usually as high as the fight would cost.

5- SoCo with lime
3- tall dogfish head 90 minute
25 boneless wings... spicy garlic, Mango Habenaro, and Asian Zing...

ok, calorie count for me.

- youarewrong

Stick with the SoCo and lime...

350 calories - 5 SoCo and lime (70 calories each - could be more if your bartender likes you)

882 calories - 3 Dogfish head 90 minute (this is a twelve ounce - so might not be a tall) 294 calories each

2000 calories - 25 boneless wings (80 calories each). Wings can range a great deal with the sauce type, so this is just an estimate and might be a bit high.

Total - 3232 calories for the evening

Crazy how it can rack up...

EDIT: Quick clarifiction on the SoCo above that's for a shot size of alcohol. to put it in perspective.

So NFG you go to the prospect beach day? And if so your overall thoughts?

(Oh and your "Scratching J's name off the invite list" didn't appear as the < and > signs screw it up)...

nah just went to camp on Monday. Was interesting to see the new format. Liked that the offensive and defense worked on their own specific drills

There's a bit of a loophole there, but the player is technically being 'punished' by leaving ungodly amounts of $ on the table, the Devils are 'punished' from losing the player (and the assets associated with his trade + contract)... outside of that, there's really not much the NHL can do except effectively bar him from unretiring while his contract is still in effect... that in effect would be the league 'punishing' the fans for keeping an all-world talent at arms length should he wish to return.

Maybe the IIHF could sanction Kovalchuk, but the NHL can't really touch him now.

- Tomahawk

There's some kind of agreement between the KHL and the NHL if I'm not mistaken. If Kovalchuk doesn't have an option of bolting from his contract, for the KHL. Maybe he doesn't leave. So this is a situation that needs to be looked at. And see what the fallout is.

Maybe he doesn't want to raise his kids in North America? I don't know how old his kids are, but it's not beyond the pale for someone not from here wanting to raise their kids in the same culture they were raised in.

And money wise, he'll make back what he's leaving on the table in NJ and then some. He'll get endorsements, etc. He'll be the Sidney Crosby of that league.

There's a transfer agreement, but once he retires he's legally free of his contract and neither bound to the NHL nor subject to its bylaws, and also not subject to the tranfer agreement between the leagues. Not much the NHL can do then, besides object strongly to the KHL and the IIHF, or try to renegotiate the tranfer agreement to preclude leagues from signing retired players.

Although it's pretty easy to do when all you can keep down is gingerale and bananas.

And NJ didn't make a fuss. They immediately filed the papers. It's not like the team itself is stirring the pot. They are letting him go with no public hard feelings. And since he can't come back and play for them, there's no real reason for them to make nice other than Lou being relieved he's relieved of that contract he didn't really like in the first place. (Another meddlesome owner deal.)

Some random thoughts:

I really like where the team is right now. I don't know if we can consider ourselves up there in the East with the Bruins, Penguins, etc. but I definitely think we'll have more success than last year.

He already knows he has $15 mill a year coming in the KHL and he has a sick mother in Russia. Perfect storm.

Bryz has a wife who came to the U.S. as a teen and wants no part of 24/7 life in Russia with her two U.S.-born kids. They spend summers there. But being there permanently is not their dream. However, they may be stuck with that if he wants to keep playing. However, thanks to Ed, he doesn't NEED to.

But we all know that this "retirement" is a farce. If he retires completely from playing Hockey, then so be it. But that isn't what this is. This is walking away from a franchise that put a lot on the line to acquire the player. And bolting to the KHL. It's not a retirement. Calling it that is a sham.

I think this Flyers team has a puncher's chance of getting up there with those other teams you mentioned.

I'm pretty confident that the Flyers won't miss the playoffs as currently constituted.

It's funny, because Kipprusoff was assumed to be making the exact same maneuver, but nobody was debating the legality of the move b/c he's old.
