Depth means financial flexibility in the coming years. I just hope Nonis does a better job of managing assets than past regimes.......and before anyone says whatcha ya talking about willis......

Tlusty should've got us back a lot more than Paradis if the asset was managed right. Steen and Collaicovo should've got us a lot more back than Stempniak. Wellwood should've been moved for some sort of asset and not just waived.

I said yesterday i want to keep Gunnar, but it sounds like he's pushing for more than Scuderi got in fa. If he is, I think we're about to lose another asset for nothing.

As for Fraser, I like him, depends on what the salary is though. Fraser at 2M is a bit too high for my liking. Besides, I rather play Franson with Gardiner, takes the pressure off of Franson to move the puck up the ice where he's quite lumber like. He can stick to relying on his size and wicked shot, be the first outlet pass when Gardiner gets into trouble (Franson's pretty solid at receiving passes and moving the puck up when there's no space for Gardiner to skate it up) just like in the playoffs.

Hopefully one of the young d can take Liles spot. And I won't say Reilly till I see how he actually looks against NHLers in preseason.

I cant see us losing gunnar for nothing, that would be a huge waste.

If he wins the arb its only a 1 year deal correct?

Ya its Brennan

Fraser gets eliminated if Reilly and Petter outplay him

Brennan and Fraser battle it out for the 7th spot.

- faceto27

No way! We need Fraser back!! They better sign him quick!

except no.

there is no way st louis can afford phaneuf, franson, and stewart under the 12million of cap space they have left

you'd be looking at gardiner franson as a starter.

1 or 2 yr deal depending on what they (gunnarson's camp or the leafs) are asking for.

I'd still do that deal.

If you have the chance to get a 23 year old all star STUD defensemen, you do it. He would anchor the Leafs defense for the next 13-15 years.

A lot can happen in 13-15 years, hell a lot can happen in 5 years. Love Pietrangelo, but consider me a conservative gm. Just because a guy is a franchise d-man today doesn't mean he will be in 4 to 5 years. All you need is one injury, or a change in style of the broader NHL game. As an example....Dion Phaneuf was a franchise player as recent as 2008. Buffalo fans thought they had their franchise d-man in Myers. Giving up Gardiner, Franson, a 1st and 2nd.......that's a big price to pay. What if we suck next season? What if that 1st becomes top pick, what if its Ekblad?

i said phaneuf + franson, not gardiner.
phaneuf needs to go.
i'd prefer a guy like orpik over phaneuf, and frankly speaking a guy like ian white over franson as well.
you keep gunnarsson and fraser

st louis would have the cap space to make the deal you're proposing

so thats the end of that

So....is this a random HockeyBuzz user made up rumor or an actual thing?

EDIT: Can I guess and say that Leafs fans are pretending that somehow Phaneuf and Franson would land up Pietrangelo?
