I think Granberg's got a legit shot at making the team out of camp, although I think if Hughes had his way, Rielly would. Either way, Liles has to go: there's better offensive weapons on this team in Gardiner, Franson, and Phaneuf, and we need a stable right-handed shot to play the right side as the 7th man.

Nonis was on TSN radio yesterday and said Granberg is closest to being ready. Wouldn't be surprised to see him make it out of camp this year. He skates well and is the type of dman we are lacking.

They both can actually make the team. If Liles is moved, Reilly takes his spot, and Granberg moves in to Fraser's spot.

Franson and Fraser played the most together out any other pairings last year; they were highly effective so unless the arbitrator awards him some crazy contract and we walk, he's back and paired with Franson.

I see Brennan as the 7th D-man if Liles goes.

But Clark keeps insisting he’s not holding anyone back from wearing it, that it’s the Leafs who made it their policy. They have been touchy about letting numbers such as 17, 13 (Mats Sundin) and 27 (Darryl Sittler/Frank Mahovlich) go to pedestrian players since it was unwisely assigned to Miro Ihnacak and John Kordic in the 1980s.


But it's OK for garbage like Stajan to wear #14.

Phaneuf - Gunn
Gardiner - Franson
Reilly - Liles/Fraser
Liles/Fraser

Reilly would play PP as well, so 15 - 17 minutes a game would be ideal for his rookie year, don't put too much pressure on the kid. I legitly like that Defense though, right good.

Or he goes to junior and develops, trust Nonis and Carlyle will make the right decision whatever it is, hope he is ready though.

I like those matchups, i would personally pair up Reilly with Fraser over Liles considering Fraser is hard hitting physical guy and Liles is a little mobile guy. Maybe a Liles Reilly or Reilly Franson combo on the PP considering Phaneuf as hard as his shot is hardly hits the net even from 20 feet out, although when he does he has buried it!!!

Its absolutely stupid. I would resign Fraser in a heart beat. Guy went what, +18? Sure it wasnt first line minutes, and sure it was a shortened season, but +18 is quite impressive, and he really got Franson going and Franson put up a lot of points. I dont know how both these guys arent signed yet considering they'll probably send Reilly down unless they finally ship out Liles

Is it the Leafs organization or the players? Sometimes players just do it out of respect or out of fear of living up to someone's expectations. I know if I was going into a town like Toronto I wouldn't want to be compared to a fan favourite like Clark, Killer and Sundin. It's just a bad idea.
