hmmmm, good question, if both nets are empty, I think the team with the player who also was drafted as d-man has the edge.
- mykokes

Remember I said don't compare them. Just enjoy the fact that they were/are Leafs.

Tlusty for Paradis was a poop trade right from the get go. I also think he could've held onto Stalberg and let him "Stajan" up his numbers and then moved him rather than trade him in a package for Versteeg. There's another trade I didn't like of his, for the life of me, I just can't remember it at the moment.

Burke's key signings

Mike Komisarek - 5 year 22.5 mill - Compliance buyout of final year of contract

Francois Beauchemin - 3 year, 11.4 mill - Traded for Lupul and Gardiner

Colton Orr - 4 year, 4 mill - Resigned by Nonis to 2 year extension

Tyler Bozak - 2 year entry level deal. Resigned by Nonis to 5 year extension

Colby Armstrong - 3 year 9 mill - Applauded by fans but didn't work out.
Bought out of final year

Tim Connolly - 2 year, 9.5 mil - Cut from team, sent to Marlies in 2nd year

Jay McClement - 2 year, 3 mill - Turned the PK from bottom 5 to top 5.

J.M Liles - 4 year, 16.8 mill extension - Looks to be rock and hardplace as of now. But still has value if he can be effective this season

Mikhail Grabovski - 5 year, 27.5 mill extension - Compliance buyout after 1 year. Team couldn't afford to keep him on at 5.5m a year with Kadri and Bozak presently ahead of him in Carlyle's depth chart.

Burke's key trades

Dominic Moore to Buffalo for: 2009 2nd round pick. Drafts Jesse Blacker

Trades Fletcher 2008 2nd round,60th overall pick Jimmy Hayes to Chicago for: 2010 2nd round, 43rd overall pick. Drafts Brad Ross

2010 1st and 2nd round picks and 2011 1st round pick to Boston for: Phil Kessel

Stajan,White,Hagman and Mayers to Calgary for: Phaneuf, Sjostrom and Aulie

Beauchemin back to Anaheim for: Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and 2013 4th round pick(part of package for Bolland trade)

Tlusty to Carolina for Paradis. Paradis packaged with Stalberg and DiDomenico to Chicago for: Kris Versteeg

Kaberle to Boston for: Joe Colborne, 1st round pick in 2011 and 2nd round pick in 2012. Packages 1st with Toronto 2nd to Anaheim to move up to 22nd overall. Drafts Tyler Biggs

Kris Versteeg to Philadelphia for: 2011 1st and 3rd round picks. Drafts Stuart Percy and Josh Leivo

Brett Lebda,Robert Slaney and 2013 4th round pick to Nashville for: Cody Franson and Matthew Lombardi

Trades conditional 2nd round pick acquired from Boston for making cup final to Colorado for: John-Michael Liles

Luke Schenn to Philadelphia for: James Van Riemsdyk

It's easy to say that Brian Burke didn't do great in the UFA market. But, at the same time, poaching Beauchemin from Anaheim and then trading him back for Lupul and his own 1st rounder in Gardiner could shape this franchise for years to come. Nevermind having the balls to acquire Phil Kessel for picks in the middle of a re-build.

And then going out trading Luke Schenn for JVR. Dealing from a position of strength for a top 6 forward that's on a 6 year deal at a healthy 4.25m per.

He walked away with a lot of strong players in the system as well. He just couldn't lure free agents to come here because of the pressure this team was under so he settled with over-paying what he could get.

I'd give him a B+ easily. Sorry about the long post but let's discuss. lol

To be fair, the Grabbo deal was a re-signing. Should not have overpaid for his own player. The Beauchemin trade worked out for both teams, not just the Leafs.

Seriously, i know we claim we win every trade, but the Beauchemin trade was VERY lopsided.

If you go down that list, I don't think we "lost" one trade.

Beauchemin had a great year, sure but he probably never should of been signed by us in the first place. Nevermind trading him back to Anaheim after a season and a half for that return. I'd rather have Jake Gardiner then a 33 year old Beachemin right now and Lupul panning out is just icing on the cake on that one.

I'd say we marginally lost the first Versteeg trade but then more than made up for it when we shipped him out again.

You mean the trade that provided Loui Eriksson to the Bruins??

I think Kessel is better for the Leafs than Loui....no real debate there.
