Even though Moulson puts up pts and he's a three time 30 goal scorer it'd still be Moulson + - Cptmjl
Yeah, Moulson + someone none of us wants to trade. That's a fact, and that's the point. |

I'll try and explain this better: you have to remember that a trade is PR as much as it is value. I'm not saying they can't throw these other two or one of them or whatever in with a Strome or a Reinhart and/or a draft pick(s) for something- but they're not going to be a centerpiece for a trade involving us receiving a "star" player (even if that "star" is someone like Vanek, in which case I'd be careful how I threw that word around).
That's what I mean by those three being the only ones with (and I should have said SIGNIFICANT) trade value- you can make cr*p trades rearranging the deck chairs on the boat all day long, but if you want to get someone who is a big time upgrade, a player who puts us in a "different ZIP Code" talent wise, Moulson and/or Nielsen (or Grabner, for that matter) aren't going to make that happen, period.
Also, the reality in this case, as far as trading for need, is that forwards simply do not bring back the equivalent in defensive talent- there just aren't as many defensemen IN the NHL, for one thing. Our "first line" winger, despite potting thirty per over the last three years, in a best case scenario involving returning us a breathing adult, would most likely bring us a third pairing defenseman....that's the MOST I'd expect; more likely, it would be a middling draft choice that we'd see in that deal, as I said.
For what I'd get for either Moulson OR Nielsen, I'll keep them, thanks. Grabner, in contrast, may be an odd man out- different situation, but I can pretty much guarantee that he'd do no better on the trade market, especially if it becomes apparent that someone has taken his job, and they HAVE TO unload him. - dcb1
aight fair enough, and now i understand what you mean by those 3 being the only tradeable players, but im not looking for a star...just a top 4 dman...a rob scuderi/andrew ference would have been great with me. that type of player.

Nice write up on IPB about the Isles likely being 2nd best in our division. Doubtful any ranger fans would like it. |

Name any team besides the Rags that are far and away better than us for that 2nd spot. |

Just based on what we've seen, you have to to think that the Isles are at least now in the conversation. Some Ranger fans I know are extremely loathe to admit it, but it's actually true. |

I would say all of them till the season starts. I mean we really did not make a splash in free agency. It is basically the same team to me just a little tougher. If Nabby does not play well though it could be a long season.I felt we needed to upgrade in the department and we stayed staus quo |

We were better than them last season. With guys getting older, playoff experience and a few good additions and subtractions we are a better team this year. Only thing holding us back is goaltending, but I think Garth makes a trade if Nabby and Poulin are complete garbage. |

then I would be totally confident in this team. It is just hard for me to get excited over a team that has disappoint each season. Last year was fun but need to see what this team can do in a full season before I fell we have turned the corner |

Strome and MM would be too much for sure...I think MM and another prospect could get it done. |

No way they are getting a top notch prospect when Vanek can walk in a year. Its unrealistic for the sabres to think that |

Completely agree...Strome couldn't be included in the deal and Buffalo should know that...but another prospect (we have many) and MM for Vanel is fair...Vanek had 20 goals this past year...MM 15...year before MM 36 and Vanek 26.... |

You were better than the rags last season?
U guys have a great offense and good defensive prospects but our defense and goaltending is one of the best in the league and our offense is good enough/will be better with av as coach. |

the interesting thing will be to see if your defense and goaltending look as good without everyone on the team collapsing to the shooting lanes and blocking so many shots. AV may free up the offense, but in doing that he's also going to loosen up the defense. Interested to see how it works out.
That being said, I do really like a lot of the ranger's defensemen and obviously in goal they're rock solid. Offensively, there's some creativity and skill there but a whole season without Gaborik means they'd better hope Richards gets his groove back. |

The islanders are not trading Ryan Strome. He's their # 1 prospect. He will be a force for years. A 1-2 punch with JT that teams would die for. |
