If you don't sign him, someone else will need to pick up the slack and net 30 goals...those guys are hard to come by...don't say Strome or Nelson because they are young and need to grow. - kear20
im just skeptical of signing him long term |

It will play itself out at the trade deadline. If Moulson is looking for big money, I think Garth will trade him.
Not to change the subject but I hope the Islanders are looking for another defenseman. I'm ok with Hamonic, AMac, Visnovski and Strait. Hickey and Donovan (if he makes the team) will be ok. Not too keen on Carkner and Finley. I'm hoping Garth will go after Ron Hainsey. I think he would round out our defense nicely. I'm sure he is looking for a long term deal but if he took a 1 or 2 year term it would work out for us. |

He did bring it up a notch in the PO's but I really thought he was consistently one of the better players for the last couple years all around wise. - Cptmjl
I agree and I love having him on the PK. You can see the defense on the other team playing tentative when he is out there. I love Grabs. |

Grabs may not be a superstar, but he is the kind of character that will win you a Stanley cup. |

So what some of you are saying is that you honestly believe we can get a top four defenseman, a top flight goaltender, or a stud scoring winger straight up for either Moulson or Nielsen. Assume this isn't NHL13, and you can't use the commissioner override..... - dcb1
No, what I am saying is they are worth more then YOU think they are. Just YOU feel that a perennial 30 goal winger & a top 2-way forward aren't worth anything. You may not be getting a young top 2 D-men straight up, but a top 4.. of course. If the GM of the other team has a need and one of our guys fill that need.. that is all it takes. If MM were a UFA this off season he would have gotten not only a Clarkson type contract but a bidding war for him.
Lots of people over value what we have, but you are under valuing what we have, REAL good players get moved all the time & most times its not for what is considered = value.

[quote=NYI78]i'm just not as high on grabner and moulson as others are... I like them but they are extremely flawed players...with that being said if grabner plays the way he did after game 1 against pittburgh he will be fine...moulson..make or break year for him and I have serious doubt about signing him to a long term
The guy had scored 30plus goals every year except this year and he was right around that pace for a full season! I don't see any major flaw in his game. He plays hard, he goes to the dirty areas it takes to bang in goals. Don't give me the if he didn't play with JT he would be an AHLer cuz guess what he does play with him and if he can bang in, deflect 30 goals a year I'm more then fine locking him up on a 5 year deal. I'd love to hear why not....go |

Yeah, I know it's not popular to hear that some of our players aren't what some like to think they are, apparently based on six good weeks of hockey in the last seven years, but it doesn't bother me...I still say, the only way we get anything significant for the likes of Moulson and Nielsen is if we throw them in with upper level prospects. Otherwise, we aren't getting sh*t, and I'd rather keep them. - dcb1
But both of these players have played ALOT more then 6 good weeks of hockey in the last 7 years. Lets be real!

Boyes hasn't signed has he? Only other guy to get the opportunity as a ufa after playing with JT was PA and the Avs had the same position and situation for him to step into. You're not disproving my point with Boyes, you're nitpicking at something for lack of anything better to discuss. - Isles_since_6
People avoided Boyes last off season too.
If anything he hurt JT's stats more then JT helped his.

Good to hear...biggest disappointment with springing for AHL Live last season...well...other than the camera angles...was that I didn't get to see much of Kabanov since he got hurt. I've been pulling for him to put it all together since seeing him in some preseason games a couple of years ago...I thought he looked better in those very limited appearances that year than some of the more highly touted prospects. - UIF
If he stays healthy he is gonna have a real good career.

LaFontaine is my all time fav player, but his number shouldn't be retired by the Isles.. he may be in the HoF but its not for what he did on the Island, it was for being as good as he was and being American Born, If he were a Canadian Born player, he wouldn't be in the HoF.

I think Garth is all done signing free agents. I believe he will let the young guys fight it out for the last two spots. Hickey, Finley, Donovan, DeHaan. I think they will send Reinhart back to juniors. |
