"The Market wasn't there"

Which Market Darcy? Your market or the realistic market?

I sort of assumed so hence asking the question more so than proposing anything.

Seriously though, Regier does some great work on trades but sucks at UFAs.....

- muffin_man

Yup....

Darcy is great at getting value when we are sellers... but he isn't very good at finding value when we are buyers... Moore, Torres, Boyes, Regehr, etc.

So can someone explain to me why Regier hasn't approached any of the younger 2nd tier UFAs and offered them rational deals yet? There are guys out there who could be good 2nd liners and won't cost much at this point.

OR, why not offer Jagr $4M to trade him for a 1st at the deadline?

- muffin_man

If you were Jagr would you come to Buffalo? I actually wouldn't mind Steve Sullivan for a year for a solid veteran and mentor for younger forwards.

I can see Min to deal Koivu...

that is huge money for that guy... he has had some very good wingers around him the last few years and hasn't done much with them...

If Hodge doesn't sign a RFA deal soon... I could see a Hodge and Vanek for Koivu and Heatley kind of deal possibly.

- JVince11

You're insane unless more comes back to Buffalo. Koivu is very solid but Hodgson will be soon enough.

Jagr is a mercenary for hire. $4.5M gets him until TDD. See: Stars, Dallas

agreed...

I think he is still holding out for a close to contender team...

I for some reason could see Anaheim scooping him up... put him next to Perry and Getzlaf?

Keep building through the draft, get winning back to the club then drop the idea that you have to convince people to come here. Make people WANT to come here instead. Can't think of another NHL city where our dollar goes farther

would be a good fit.

He was hoping to play for the Habs but they lowballed him. I don't think contender is tops on his list of qualities.

they have some good centers coming up their pipeline and are in a salary cap bind... I see Koivu as a a possibly moved person because I think they are just going to get low-balled for Heatley.

i think this coming year we have 3 2nds and in 2015 we have 2 more.

him as our 1RW next to Vanek and Hodge would be a joke...

Are Sabre fans happy with Darcy's drafting? Grigorenko was lobbed to him so he gets no credit on that one but otherwise, is he picking BPA? gambling?

My guess is he sees the youngsters playing here this year- Grigs, Girgs, Armia, Flynn, etc. That seems to be the game plan. I would go after guys like Brunner and Grabo, we certainly have the cap space.
- mhp

And that alone has this fan very excited

I have read...

Montreal, Philly, Pitt, Boston, and SJ were his top choices.. and he didn't get offered more than 2M to play for any of them.

Same thing as last year.. he got 5M I think from Dallas and then at the deadline he was dealt for the 1st if Boston got to the Conf. but then Boston only took on about 2M of his cap hit so he got the money he wanted in a year and Boston got the cap hit they could afford.

Since Pegula took over and pretty much tripled the size of the scouting dept, yes. Before that his track record was pretty bad.
