Move Heatley at the deadline for picks and prospects. - dadeadhead
Maybe Vanek to Minny at the deadline? |

Last year of his deal and come the deadline he'd be the best scorer available.
Goose got us a 1st.
Teams get desperate for scoring come the deadline. - dadeadhead
That would be if Vanek didn't extend with Minny by that point already...
I think that Vanek will get the biggest and nicest return at the deadline... especially if he starts out as hot as he was this past year.
Some of the guys in next years UFA pool.. if they get dealt at hte deadline.. could be amazing...
Gaborik, Heatley, Vanek, Thornton, Marleau, Sedin, Sedin, Markov, Miller, Phaneuf, Kessel, Pommer, Bergeron, Callahan, D. Brown, Pavelski, Hjalmarsson, Moulson, and Ott...

Walked in the door at 5am, last thing I'm thinking about is drinking right now. - dadeadhead
I was 3am myself and was drinking crappy draft Yingling all night, I'm really paying for that stupid move right now.
Also, playing center for the Bananaville Yellow Peels is no easy task! |

2 reasons why I don't want to hang on to these guys (Miller, Vanek) until the trade deadline:
1) Turn the dressing room over to the new leadership. From day one of camp.
2) Vanek always seems to be nursing those "mystery injuries" then. Need to deal him while he's healthy.
Unless teams are just low-balling us right now. |

I'd say those guys will be re-signed and I'm sure many others but thats still a solid crop. This year's UFAs sucked so hopefully there will be some excitment next year. |

Plus, if you're going for 1st overall, you don't really want either of them. |

i think he was injured for a touch.. but i agree i think he should start in Roch and be called up if he is doing well or we have injuries - SabresFaninIndiana
I know it took him some time to adjust and then he got that concussion, and improved greatly by the years end. I still want him to be in rochester next year getting those big minutes and maybe getting called up halfway into the year if hes ready. |

If we could snag Coyle or Phillips from Minny for Vanek at the deadline, I'd like that, particularly Coyle. It would seem like some of these center prospects they have will be stuck behind Koivu and Brodziak on the depth chart. |

Oh I agree with that...
there are some solid gems in that group.... Callahan and D. Brown I would LOVE to add for their leadership qualities... Hjalmarsson would be a great piece to almost anyone's blue line... Kessel, Pommer, Pavelski, or Moulson would be solid scoring pieces for a contender..
Thornton, Marleau, and Iggy won't be dealt. |

So can someone explain to me why Regier hasn't approached any of the younger 2nd tier UFAs and offered them rational deals yet? There are guys out there who could be good 2nd liners and won't cost much at this point.
OR, why not offer Jagr $4M to trade him for a 1st at the deadline? |

I agree with you. I prefer to move both this summer but if Niles Crane Regier can't pull the trigger, they're here for the season. most likely. We know how he works. |

It is Regier, no one asks questions. The man works in mysterious ways. I have wondered the same thing. Take a page out of the Stars book. Sign Jagr. Trade him at the deadline. It is not like this team is in cap trouble.
Plus Jagr could show the youg guys how its done. |

These are all scenarios we have talked about...
Buffalo is just not that destination that people want to go to right now... I think that if someone is going to take a deal like that.. they want to go to a TB, CAR, FLA, DAL, PHX or something it seems... they mind as well soak in the sun or the area. |

My guess is he sees the youngsters playing here this year- Grigs, Girgs, Armia, Flynn, etc. That seems to be the game plan. I would go after guys like Brunner and Grabo, we certainly have the cap space. |

I can see Min to deal Koivu...
that is huge money for that guy... he has had some very good wingers around him the last few years and hasn't done much with them...
If Hodge doesn't sign a RFA deal soon... I could see a Hodge and Vanek for Koivu and Heatley kind of deal possibly. |

I sort of assumed so hence asking the question more so than proposing anything.
Seriously though, Regier does some great work on trades but sucks at UFAs..... |
