Teams are now free to negotiate with pending UFAs that are coming into the last year of their contract. So Buffalo or any other team authorized by the Sabres can discuss a new contract as part of the trade discussions. Vanek only gets dealt if a team can negotiate an acceptable contract with him.
I think most teams are on the final stages of putting their rosters together. There are still some good players still available through UFA signing or trade.
I am having great difficulty finding teams that might be a Vanek fit. What teams actually have the cap space and a willingness to spend $7m more a year. |
