Well, looks like Reid Boucher will make the team now. Someone's going to have to score goals. Better hope he's the second coming of Stamkos like some of you fellow NJ fans make him out to be.

NJ is (frank)ed if they don't get their 1st rounder back. They only did the same thing 5 or so other teams did.

What a colossal "(frank) you" Kovy just gave to the Devils fanbase

Hope his flight home takes nosedive into a mountain range. Wouldn't be the first time.

not cool man, hate the player but don't wish death on the dude.

Oh no? Your financially handicapped franchise just got out of paying a TON of money to a player.

However, the Devils can either give it to Kovalchuk, or not have him and not bring in any revenue into Prudential center with all those empty seats.

What a pickle you guys are in. I wonder if every game is going get marketed as... COME SEE MARTY PLAY HIS LAST YEAR AS A DEVIL!!

Isn't that the history of the rangers franchise? Come see all the over the hill stars before they retire?

If the Devils were that financially strapped we probably wouldn't have signed clowe and ryder. Losing pretty much our only marketable player does nothing but bad things to our future revenue.

Sorry, im extremely angry. I like players with passion & heart. Desire to win at the highest level.

Apparently Kovy is none of that since this seems entirely motivated by $$$.

It was a shock they signed them period, but now it makes sense, they signed them because they knew they were losing Kovy.

I have no idea what to say this is crazy. Now I'm nervous more Russian players will follow suit.

I can think of 2 more that might be tempted to go back home for big $$...

So if they knew they were losing Kovy, then they weren't weaseling out of the recapture penalties...

Another thing is Kovy was guaranteed that money. Kovy had 70 million in the best league in the world guaranteed. You can't just approach the player and ask him to accept none of that and play in an inferior league if he didn't want it. Kovy had all the leverage in this situation.

Can't blame a guy for going after the most money he can get or for making a personal life decision like he did today. It happens everyday in the real world.

Sure it will suck for New Jersey and their success right now, but they have to be happy to be rid of that contract for future plans.

Some people who were not born in America actually prefer being back in their home country....and making lots of $$.

Of course they were, first 2 years of his contract were 6 million in cash... even if he KNEW that Kovy was going to leave, he still saying, ok... lets low ball the first 2 years and if he decides to leave, it wont hurt too bad.

Nothing wrong with being motivated by money. I bet everyone is. I know I am.

Wow, I'm sorry Devils fans. It seems like the blows keep coming. It's hard to say this as a pens fan and rival, but I really am impressed with the way the devils always find ways to stay at least relatively competitive, and often, very competative despite all the bad luck. I am sure you guys will bounce back from this like all the other BS that keeps happening to your team.

Yeah, I'm wondering how many of us would turn down an opportunity to play in our home country for twice the amount of money we were making abroad...
